Default Sega Genesis Home Run Derby

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ve2atfHevuA

part 2 of my youtube baseball series

baseball games on the genesis in general tried to 'out real' each other.
these home run trots just arent as exciting as the nes games were.
the trot in world series baseball 95 was especially bad,
it took over 30 seconds for the man to slowly run around the bases.
i had to cheat and triple the video speed to keep the video under the 10 minute youtube limit.

i think my favorites are tommy lasorda, sports talk and world series baseball.
unsurprisingly, these are all sega first party titles

    thoughts?

Only baseball games needed are Sports Talk for Arcade style, and World Series for simulation style which only goes so far in the 16 bit days. So definitely #1 goes to Sports Talk.

Sports Talk and Tommy Lasorda FTW. Forget the rest.

triple play was fairly good, ea had a really bad run with the two tony larussa games and mlbpa. ea had their act together with football and hockey, but basketball and baseball needed reboots during the genesis lifespan. triple play had a decent run until 2k got the third party mlb exclusivity deal.

I think among the most striking things in comparison to your Super NES video is the incredible difference in composite video quality. The SNES almost looks almost like RGB while the Mega Drive looks more like RF with its blurry picture and washed out colors.... Oh, and these videos are undeniable proof that the bad music on Mega Drive / Genesis sounds way worse than the bad music on SNES... And with all these scratchy voice samples the SNES' muffled and filtered sound actually does make it a bit more easy on the ears.

There are a couple of Japanese exclusives for Mega Drive - like Miracle Nine.

sadly, i do not have a scart or component video capture device. i do not mind the lower quality in the videos though... that is how we played the games in the day. back then, composite was a treat

Yeah, absolutely. What I was saying though is that the SNES has a much better composite video quality. It looks great; while the composite video that the Genesis outputs looks merely acceptable.
That's what I was saying. I wasn't criticizing you for not using RGB.

You just reminded me how Triple Play turned into MVP Baseball, which is now dead forever. FOREVER!

I miss my MVP so much! Like, I still do new Dynasty modes once in awhile but I'm starting to feel silly with so many guys that don't even play anymore and I'm missing the newer ones, it gets worse as each year progresses... Most of all, I barely even follow irl baseball anymore, so the latest I really know is like...2005, with hints of 2007.

    Late night ramblings, sorry.
