    Default ResQ

I've only played less than 5 min so far. But it plays very similar to Blaster Master.

When do you get to the 3D Bonus stage that's supposed to be similar to "Star Fox"? Is there an access code that can take you right to the 3D Bonus Stage? Maybe a level select code? How about a Game Genie code?

It's an unreleased game from back in the day. Towards the end of the Genesis/MD's life Psygnosis cancelled a bunch of games they had in development for it. Assumedly this was one of them.

So since this was an unreleased title and you could never buy nor find a cart of it anywhere, may I ask where to get the ROM for this?

The developer (Tempest Software) made it available as freeware, so feel free to check it out.

I need a list of controls. I can make the thing fly and shoot, but not much else.

You need to land the ship on a flat surface, once you have done that press and hold down on the D-pad. Then the Space Centurion will leave the ship and you can proceed on foot/jetpack, and reach areas that are inaccessible for the ship.

Its a really good game, well worth playing.

That's great! Do you know when, how and who released it ?

    Some links I found:

Allegedly a little disgruntled at all their hard work being wasted, programmers Tempest Software released the code to the emulation community with their blessing. It's not difficult to understand Psygnosis' thinking - while slickly executed, the game is a fairly ponderous underground-exploring mission that really belongs on an Amiga or Atari ST, and its chances of being a hit with the Mega Drive audience would have to be counted as very slim indeed. Such is the problem of producing cartridge games, of course - it's too expensive just to stick something out and see how it does, even if you've just spent 18 months and a couple of hundred thousand quid developing it, just it time to see the console go down the toilet. Suddenly, 100 million potential Russian Spectrum owners seem like an attractive market...

The look and feel of the game seem taken from an Amiga project, probably because the team was inspired by the Bitmap Brothers graphic style back then. Other inspirations were games such as R-Type (for the ship) C64 version of Turrican, Super Ghosts and Goblins (for the centurion) Starwing/Starfox (for the 3D bonus game).
As a former graphic designer of Tempest Software wrote:
The Game was programmed on 486 PC’s by Bill Pullan and Pete, while Jason used Deluxe Paint II and III on an Amiga 1200 with RAM upgrade for Graphics and Animation. Bill actually worked on an Amiga title before RESQ, “Bill’s Tomato Game“.
Thanks to Jason and Celine for the contributions!

Those bonus stages seem to have promise. Still a little rough, but the pastel backgrounds look nice. The polygon work still needs some refinement and it's a little on the slow side.

Damn. Here I was thinking maybe SFT could pick this up as another project. It'd be their first Genesis release that's NOT yet another stinkin RPG!

Ah well, at least it's free now. How come nobody has bothered to put it on a cart yet? I'd buy it! Come on you repro guys! Add this to your portfolios! Haven't we had enough of those dumb Japanese imports already? How about some American luvin huh?

    It's a British game afair.^^

And playgen actually did put it on cart, he was the very first one on Sega-16 to offer repros a few years back. I believe he even sent one to one of the developers.

But he has since stopped doing repros.
