Default Genesis Model II LED flickering

Well, my Genesis works fine, but there is one annoying fault. The LED flickers, stays very dim, flickers back to full brightness, and flickers again. I know that LED's typically dont burn out before 20 years of constant usage, so it seems odd. The LED is not a hacked in install, it is a factory default component.

Edit: It only flickers when playing a Genesis game. When playing a Sega CD game it seems to stay at full brightness.

Maybe the LED doesn't have full contact with the soldered cable to it. If you are good on the soldering, crack open the case and take a look at the two cables going onto the LED pins and see if you can solder them back on.

    EDIT:

Oh, just saw your edited post. Thats strange, not sure how to fix that particular problem other than the above. Sorry.

Well, it is not exactly full brightness in Sega CD mode, staying a little dimmer, but with no flickering.
I bought 2 "as-is" Model IIs for 5 dollars. I am waiting for them to come in. I guess I will use this one for modding. I checked the soldering on the LED, and it looks like it makes contact with the traces.
Edit: I pushed down hard on the LED, and now it does not flicker. Looks like it was not all the way through the PCB!
