Default Strangely modified Genesis 3 on eBay

    This auction has me puzzled.

    Blue LED power indicator, cool.
S-Video output, cool (... if you don't have an RGB monitor).
Switch Mode Power Supply, well... I can't imagine the Genesis uses enough power to justify this mod (or am I wrong?), but at least the reasoning is sane.

And then comes the weird part:

    Audiophile dampening!???

Maybe if you lived on top of a subway and you didn't want the cartridge to move in the connector and make your Genesis 3 reset randomly when the trains drove by. But then I don't think a plate (of obsidian?) and some cones would cut it.

This must be the most useless, braindead "mod" I have ever seen

Yeah, It seems like a waste. The Genesis 3 only takes up .35 amps. That hardly requires a switching power supply.

    "Audiophile Dampening"
Whoever invented that should be shot by firing squad in Siberia. Also the entire Monster Cable company should be dragged out and beaten by Segata Sanshiro.

    Just......why?

Jesus, I think that monstrosity is close to a Model 1 in size. It might be slightly bigger! And clunkier too with that box off to the side (power supply I assume?)

    They RAPED that poor system!

Well.. I have lots of the stuff in/on my record player, and it does it's job of dampening mechanical vibrations absolutely fine. But using it in at system with not a single moving part to affect the sound (or anything else), like a cartridge based console, makes less than no sense

Actually, now that I think about it, There would be an advantage of using that power supply if you have a CD 32X setup, because you wouldn't have to use 3 wall plug PSUs, you would just have to use the one Power supply. Still no point in having it on the Genny3 though, unless you mod it to support a CD or 32X. Maybe the seller thought the LED drew 10amps so the Genny3 needed an up'd power supply.

If that LED draws 10amps, it better be a goddamn laser!

Also, why waste that effort on a Model 3. Pimp zee Model Vun!

This is clearly a misguided attempt of trying to supply a Mega Drive with extra megapower.

Everybody knows that such effort is better used on a Model 1 Mega Drive. My avatar quite easily expresses my disappointment.
