    Default HDTV Converter/Upscaler

Howdy Sega Fans, I have a question that is driving me crazy. I recently upgraded to a bigger HDTV, which unfortunately doesn't have an s-video input for my modded Genesis. I've been looking at converter/upscaler that I believe I can plug my modded Genesis into (has s-video input), which is connected to the television via HDMI. Is this a plausible work around or am I misunderstanding things? Any helpful info would be greatly appreciated, as I'd hate to ask my friend for my old t.v. back, just because I can't imagine going back to playing my Genesis using the old composite connection.

    Two options:

    • RGB SCART to HDMI
Requires a RGB-SCART cable (via ebay.co.uk) and a HDMI converter like this, _not_ like this (note the orange/brown logo)
    • RGB SCART to Y'PbPr component
      Requires a RGB-SCART cable (via ebay.co.uk) and a a component converter.

Highly recommended for classic 4:3 CRTs, but works great on many HDTVs too.

Do any of the upscalers/converters keep the aspect ratio to 4:3, and just padd the sides to HD PAR?

I imagine it would. High def and widescreen don't always go hand in hand (thank god).

So, an upscaler would work? It's just very difficult to go back to hooking up my Genesis the old way after I had OSG mod it for s-video. It was the best $99 I ever spent. If it wasn't for a feature here on Sega 16 (Seeing Is Believing Video Connections) I would of never known, so thanks! If anyone can suggest a good (U.S.) model for me I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks CUL for the heads up too!

^ Thanks but I am not sure what your question is. All you need is a) an RGB-SCART cable and b) the converter/transcoder. S-Video is inferior to RGB.

Personally I use RGB-SCART and nothing else, but both the converters I recommended above do not stretch the picture automatically from what I've seen and read on other forum member's experiences with these devices.
