    Default Games with secrets at the beginning

    Let's see how many games we can list that utilize this trope.

    Streets of Rage 2: 1-Up hidden behind the foreground layer in Stage 1
    Doom 2: When you start, just turn around and you'll get a chainsaw
    Duke Nukem 3D: Rocket Launcher hidden near a billboard at the start of Episode 1, Devastator hidden in a wall at the start of Episode 3
    Morrowind: In the census office during character creation you can take a gold plate which is worth a lot of money. No idea if this was an intentional design choice, but I do it all the time to start off with some quick extra cash.

    Black Tiger: As you get into Round 1, shoot the wall behind you to reveal a bonus.

    Sparkster: Beat the robot before the title screen (!) and get one of the golden swords you need to turn into Super Sparkster.

    EDIT: Although it may be the prologue. However, you could skip it and miss the opportunity to get it. I remember having to wait every time. The robot fights were awesome.

    In MDK if you turn at the beginning there is one of those upside-down recylce bins that scream. If you kill him you get an apple I think.

    Man I remember getting the Chainsaw in Doom 2 every time. Me and some friends tried to do the whole game with just the chainsaw. Needless to say, we failed miserably.

    Hahaha, I also remember stealing everything at the beginning of Morrowind! I mean everything. Then again I only ever did the thieves guild and never the main quest. I stopped playing when I was the Gray Fox. To me Morrowind was like a sequel to Thief. Great times! Oblivion had a retarded thief missions.

    Vectorman: 1) Destroy the hidden TV in the corner and blow up the Sega logo (sort of);
    2) jump into the Sega logo 12 times and shoot it 24 times to trigger a "catch the falling letters" game that allows you to skip to a certain level based on how many letters you catch.

    In castlevania for the NES you could jump over the entrance to the castle at the beginning and a bonus item would appear. There was also that naughty dog game for the Genesis where you could enter a code and got to see boobs, lol.

    If you turn on Mortal Kombat II on the Genesis and do not play the game, just leave it in attract mode, but leave the system on for exactly 3 hours, 23 minutes and 44 seconds EXACTLY, then press start immediately...you can play as all the characters from Street Fighter II.

    It's true, trust me.

    It would explain where all that lost memory went.

    Toejam & Earl: If you head as far southwest in the ocean as you can (with the aid of rocket boots, wings, etc) you'll find a hole which takes you to a secret island inhabited by hula hula girls giving you instant-level-up lemonade.
