    Default Prices on Snes games

All I got to say is I wish i kept all of my games because I had over 100 real carts with boxes. I would have made a lot of money.

I have been looking in geting the old systems again but for now I will stick with my Xbox and emulation with the prices so high.

Time to save up and wait for a bargin i think.

Yea, it sucks if you are a collector for the SNES right now. I own about 100 games for it, pick one up if I don't own it when I find it cheap, but thats about it.

I still need a copy of Earthbound, but I refuse to pay upwards of 8o to 100 bucks for it.

It's not that bad if you're collecting cart only. There are only a couple of titles (like Earthbound) that are unreasonably priced. Most games can still be had for less than $20, and you can always mod your system to play cheaper SFC games easily enough. I did that with Sonic Wings/Aero Fighters since the US cart was like $80 and the Japanese one was $15.

...or buy a Powerpak! (you filthy pirate.)

Earthbound has to be the most stupidly priced game I've ever seen. It's equally as rare as Secret of Mana and I got that game for $33.

Yea, not to mention Secret of Mana is a much better game as well.

Earthbound is possibly the only real case of an overhyped game in the old days, and since It's fairly rare(however, yea It's nowhere near as rare as people make it out to be though), combined with being super over hyped by the cult following, the pricetag is isnane.

Really, would you rather spend such money on a Great like Lufia 2, Chrono Trigger, FF III(6), Secret of Mana, exc or spend it on just a good/very good game like Earthbound(and the sick thing is, most of those, you can even get cheaper then Earthbound)?

I stopped buying SNES games because any good game you find is behind the glass case and $25 or more. I've wanted Mario Kart for years, but I'm not paying $35 for it, which is the standard price I see that dirt-common game go for. I can go to my game shop with $35 and buy four or five Genesis or Sega CD games. It just floors me that people (fanboys) are willing to pay extortion-level prices for SNES games. I don't play RPGs, but my store had a loose copy of Chrono Trigger for $55 and loose PSIV for $10. I know which one I would go with.
You know who else loves Sega....

This is why I collect for the Super Famicom and not the SNES. I've noticed that a lot of the Super Fami equivalents of expensive SNES games go for next to nothing, especially in really pricey games like Chrono Trigger or EarthBound. For example, I got Rockman X2 for only $10, whereas Mega Man X2 usually goes between $30-40.

But those are common games in Japan. There's over 2 million copies of Earthbound in Japan. North America got about 200,000.

In less it was just recently added, I'm pretty sure the Virtual Console doesn't have it. Although thats a good idea. Maybe if it gets added to the virtual console the price of Earthbound carts will decrease so it will be cheaper to get a cart of.

Yes I want a copy of Earthbound.

Picked up Mega Max X1-6 for GC for $25... FUCK paying those silly prices for parts 2&3 on the SNES.

Ha, you'd think so... not from what I can see. Asshats on Ebay still want $40+ for Streets of Rage2&3 when they're only $8 on VC. Same goes for Final Fight 2&3...

Musha... haha, $8 on VC all day long (I'm not paying an extra $92 simply for the authentic Genny sound).

Imho... if a game isn't available via legal Emulation, then spending the dough on a physical cart is worth it to have the game if one wants it bad enough... but when there are legal Emulated versions of the game that are 90% identical to the physical game (the 10% being the sound, which can never be perfectly emulated on a different sound card), why support the resale market?

England doesn't count, when it comes to pricing anything that Isn't Sega related prier to the PS2 era. The reason that stuff like SNES games cost a fortune there, is because you guys were all Sega fanatics at the time SNES games, and such were in print, so companies weren't gonna mass praduce praducts that aren't gonna sell there.

PS. I'm curious on what the praduction/sales numbers were on average for an SNES game in the PAL format alone, 10 bucks says It's pathetic at best.

To OldSchool: Kid your self all you want, but you don't actually own anything when you use emulation, so of course It's gonna be super cheap, physical items will always be worth a hell of a lot more then a digital copy of the game. If you want to be cheap about it, plus it doesn't bother you not owning the game, then emulate, but don't complain about it, and try comparing the price of a real item, and a fake item(yet I'm sure you'll be willing to pay 70$ for a POS new game, so I find it funny when people complain about older games that are way better, costing the same or on rare occassions alittle more).

Exactly. But I've noticed that even for games that sold well in both regions, the Japanese version tends to go for significantly less than the American counterpart.

You don't seem to get the point. Sure I can get some games for way cheaper on the Virtual Console, but some of us enjoy playing the real cartridges on real hardware with the proper controller, so that's why people still buy the real thing as opposed to a VC download.
