Puyo WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game (32X)

As creative and over-the-top as professional wrestling can be, you'd think game developers would be hard pressed to find a way to make a game that's even more ridiculous. Midway managed to do just that with Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game, which exploded into arcades and later a ton of home consoles. The 32X version is quite good, and those looking for some simple, arcadey fun should definitely check it out. Read the full review for all the wrasslin' details.

Yay, my first review! Didn't expect it to be up so soon. Thanks for trimming the fat, Melf!

For those of you who haven't been here for long or who otherwise hadn't noticed, I first proposed reviewing this game (and several other 32X games which have since been reviewed like Pitfall and WWF RAW) back in December.......2007. Since then, I've continuously put it off despite the oodles of free time I had. Procrastination at its worst. Seeing posts dated from '07-'09 of me talking about reviewing made me finally break the habit and hammer this one down. Nearly 3 years in the making, but only a couple of days really to actually put together. Unlike many things in development hell, I think this turned out to be good!!!

Out of the remaining 32X games left to review, this was the best one. Not much worthwhile left. I seriously considered "Primal Rage", but the game's just not very good in any incarnation. It was a mid-'90's flash in the pan. Hell, there isn't even a review for the Genesis version up in this bitch!

wow! what a great, informative review!! I really enjoyed reading that.
I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.

A Genesis version is in the works by our staff, you should review the 32X version and it they could be posted close together. I'm sure it's bad but look at all of the other bad games that've been reviewed by me and the others. Besides it'd get us that much closer to full review coverage for the 32X.

Well, considering the crap I've reviewed already for the site (Corporation! *shudder*), Primal Rage is almost a refreshing change of pace for me actually. But I'd appreciate if you could do a 32X-review of the game! I'm doing two other games before I'll pen something for the Genesis-incarnation of PR first, but I seriously think that these two reviews would go nicely together.

Oh, nice WWF Arcade review as well. I'm thinking of doing a review of the Genesis version myself, but that one currently resides pretty low on my priority list

This was your very first review, Aarzak?! It was pretty good (like the game, one of the best WWF/WWE games ever made, alongside SmackDown! 2 on the PS1)

And if you complained about the small amount of characters, I think you'd probably hate it even more on the SNES, since they removed 2 characters (Yokozuna and Bam Bam Bigelow. Coincidentally, the fatties)

And that WWE All-Stars game... I'd love to see it. A modern throwback to Wrestlemania Arcade? Sweet

Yes, I'm fully aware of the SNES version........dunno what went wrong with that one. Not only were Yoko and Bam Bam removed, but the port could only handle 3 wrestlers on-screen (every other version handled 4) and had perpetual slowdown, especially with 3 wrestlers. Moves did less damage as well, and commentary and voice samples were sparse. Even the sfx and music weren't faithful to the coin-op, only the graphics. One of the rare examples in which the Genesis port of a game TRAMPLES the SNES one. What the hell went wrong with that port? Sculptured Software was on the ball with all the other ports, and the SNES MK ports.

PS1 & Saturn ports are nearly arcade-perfect, except that they have noticeably smaller sprite sizes (hell, I think the 32X's sprite sizes may be either the same size or a bit bigger! ) and no in-game music. PC port is the best one of them all; sprites slightly smaller than the arcade and gimped MIDI music.

I once thought to try it, but I never did. Although I heard it's not that good

but there are special finishing moves for every character but to do that it s almos impossible
