Yang Jia Jiang (Yang Warrior Family)

Today's review is something of an oddity. Long believed to be a bootleg, Yang Jia Jiang (known as Yang Warrior Family outside of China), is most likely a legitimate, unlicensed release. Details on the game's development and distribution are scarce, as they are with most Chinese Mega Drive titles, but we can at least still review it for public consumption. Read our full review and see if this one is worth hunting down. Be warned though; there are a ton of pirate versions that are not the same, so care is needed to find an original copy.

It might not be the best game ever made but if you love beat'em ups you will want to get this.

What's the true difference between a bootleg and an unlicensed release though really? Better programming?

Bootleg = A pirate version of a (usually) licensed game.
Unlicensed game = An original game without the license of Sega.

I must add that the boxart for the review is an unofficial one. I have the original release myself (thanks, Bramsworth!), CIB.

Hey Zebbe can you share that boxart with us? It'd be good to have a scan of the right one for the review. I want to try to get as much info right as I can for the game and that would be a big help. I also want to see if my copy is a legit one as my label art is different too.

I missed that boxart :P It's also amusing how the plastic box appears to have been taken from a Capcom game, since it has the Capcom logo imprinted in it. I also got a copy of Feng Shen Ying Jie Zhuan that steals a Capcom box. Hmm..perhaps it implies they were made by the same company? Who knows

Yeah, but you've got the original. The one on that site I guarantee is NOT the original, just a reprint from China. I've seen lots of pirates with that same design, including a reprint of Shui Hu Feng Yun Zhuan.

Well yeah, the one on the site definitely looks more "pirate/unoriginal" than my copy.

vintagegamecrazy: There is a box in light blue with some text in Chinese, other than that, nothing. The manual is also very bare bones.
