    Default The headphone jack

Has anyone here used the heaphone jack on the Genesis? I admit that, in all these years of playing on the system, I never had. But since I was worried last night about noise from the TV waking someone up, I tried it out.

I know that some of you have really good sound systems on your sets, but for me this resulted in much better sound than my crappy setup. This is an interesting new way to experience my Genesis games.

Out of curiosity, are there any other consoles (not portables) that share this feature?
It may no longer be the `90s, but there is still time for Klax.

Not that I know of, but I use a Daewoo (flat screen) TV, and it has a set of RCA plugs in the front for ppl bringing over their stuff, AND a plug for headphones also.

So yes its a handy feature if you live with other ppl whose schedules don't always match.

Now here's a question, does that earphone plug work w/ 32x or segacd?

    With 32X yes!

With sega CD... only the PCM sound. Actually the Sega CD is supposed to come with a mixer cable so that you can send the stereo signal to the Sega CD and then it mixes it and puts it all out the RCA jacks on the back of it.

You will find that if you have this hooked up correctly and turn down the volume on the head phone jack the sound is all weird when playing SCD games. The first this happend to me I thought I broke it. Then it dawned on my puney 9 yr old mind what was actually occuring.

    Das war der Hammer.

I've used it once as far as I can remember, no wait... I think I've used it twice. All in all I guess it's a nice feature even though it isn't that useful.

I use it to as a cheap way to get the stereo sound out of my Genesis, without modding it.

I rarely did at first, and then when I got a Sega CD I couldn't anymore. When I got a Nomad I used the headphones constantly, though.

I use headphones here and there, but my pair has such a short cord it's really annoying. ^_^

Light Crusader sounds awesome with it...

I have a pair of Bose Roommate powered speakers which can be hooked up to anything with a headphone jack and use those with my Genesis. If you can find a pair of powered speakers (don't have to be Bose) that connect to a headphone jack, give them a try. The sound is much better than from a TV speaker.

I use it somewhat regularly but it's not preferred as the sound effects can be sharper than the music, which hurts so I lower the volume.

I always use it. I have a 3.5 mm cable going to the mixing jack on the Mega CD from it.

Buy stuff at the Magical Game Factory, WaterMelon's crowd funding video game development site!

Do YOU have any games you want to get rid of that haven't been reviewed on the site and needs to be beaten for the sake of this project? Send 'em to me and I'll review and beat them! I'll pay for shipping of course. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Why would I not use it? It is the ONLY way to hear all sounds. Playing castle of Illusion any other way will make the music sound extremely odd as only the right channel is heard out either of the mono outputs. Lame.

I use it to hook up and get sound through my PC speakers and subwoofer. Streets of Rage sounds solid.

I believe not using it, or having the slider set to zero, are permanent banning offenses.
