Default The 32X Music Appreciation Thread!

After browsing the "32X Power!" Board I came across the Favorite 32X Tracks thread. I noticed how very few 32X soundtracks there are on the Net. The ones that I have listened to were through emulators, and I don't prefer that. So I decided to record my own soundtracks using my Model 1 Sega Genesis (High Def, No TMSS) to get the best quality you can get. I also got into contact with fellow Sega-16 member sheath and he has agreed to to a few as well.

I've been told I'm crazy for doing this. Just a little!

These are the games I'm recording:

    • Knuckles' Chaotix (Done!)
    • Kolibri (Done!)
    • Metal Head
    • Mortal Kombat 2
    • MotoCross Championship
    • Primal Rage
    • Star Wars Arcade
    • Virtua Racing Deluxe (Done!)

I just finished Knuckles' Chaotix and will post more as they come. I chose 320Kbps because I have a soft spot for the Sonic series and wanted to preserve the original recording as close as possible. I may go down to 192Kbps for others, maybe.....

    Knuckles' Chaotix (83MB MP3 Stereo 320kbps CBR)
    Kolibri OST (120MB MP3 Stereo 320kbps CBR)
Virtua Racing Deluxe OST (33MB MP3 Stereo 320kbps CBR)

    Listen and Enjoy!!!

Sounds great, and with bandwidth as it is for many today, I may move up to 320Kbps as well. 83MB for the entire Chaotix soundtrack is definitely not a bad size!

    Also, I like it crazy!

I have recorded much videogame music from that generation from real hardware including the 32X. Normally I like to keep them uncompressed, but if I do MP3, then 320kbps is definitely the way to go. There's a TON of great music in Chaotix.

Kolibri OST is up! Link is on original post! Once again, recorded at 320Kbps CBR Stereo MP3. All tagged and organized. Only negative I must say is that I didn't know which track belonged to what level/event. So, I kept the tracks in the order I recorded them from the game's Sound Test Menu. They are titled Track 1, Track 2, etc.

This game is naturally heavy on bass so if you have a good sound system, you'll like.

    Again, Listen and Enjoy!!!

Sounds really clean. Nice job on capturing the tracks.

Thanks! I'm really glad they came out as good as they did. No hissing, hums or anything! Probably helped that I cleaned my Genesis up a little before recording!

I used Audacity for recording/capture and ran a good male to male 3.5mm Stereo Plug cable from the Genesis Headphone Jack to the Line-In port on my PC.

If anyone has noticed, I tried to cut the tracks off right before they loop again. So when you hit Repeat it sounds fluid. For some of the stages in Chaotix I let them loop twice, then cut them off. Pretty much the same on Kolibri.

I'm also very glad you guys like them! I wanted to contribute something to the community, and I love SEGA music, so this seemed like the perfect fit!

Music with normal looping without any stupit "fade in" and " fade out"? Exellent!
I don't really care about almost unnoticeble muffles, but looping on other hand puts your mp3 over most YouTube ones. Keep it up.

I finally got a chance for peace and quiet and some Kolibri tunes on my Home Theater. Great job man! I don't hear any muffling between 320-192kbps for this stuff, which is good so I don't have to go back and redo everything to date. But I will start encoding at 320kbps from now on, that is when I am properly motivated to reboot into XP to use my capture card.

Glad you enjoyed!!!! I'm going to do Star Wars Arcade next. When I get some free time I'll start recording the soundtrack. When ever that may be.

I bet when I load that game up I'll have flashbacks!!! Damn challenging game...........

I am glad that this thread was made as a result of mine, it's certainly an awesome one so far!

Knuckles Chaotix was one of my favorite 32X soundtracks, just some damn good Sonic-style tunes that are worth placing next to the Genesis greats if I do say so myself.

But I think it's awesome you just finished the Kolibri soundtrack, that had some excellent music (very atmospheric as well), and Kolibri happens to my favorite 32X game which is an even bigger plus. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! As I said before, Star Wars Arcade is next, I don't think I'll be able to get to it this weekend though as I have to work. But it will get done. I can assure you guys of that!
