Megadrive Side by Side: Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll

Rare's Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll is widely considered to be a classic on the NES. A few years back, we reviewed the obscure Mega Drive version, but how about we take a closer look at the two? Well, staff writer Doug Jackson did just that, and his findings are now available in the latest installment of our Side by Side series. Sit back, Read the full article and enjoy!

Good stuff this. I need to track down this game sometime.

If you haven't played either version before than start with the NES version, and enjoy it.
    "before, then" ?

Buy stuff at the Magical Game Factory, WaterMelon's crowd funding video game development site!

Do YOU have any games you want to get rid of that haven't been reviewed on the site and needs to be beaten for the sake of this project? Send 'em to me and I'll review and beat them! I'll pay for shipping of course. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Very nice article. Nice to see more non-USA releases being covered in more detail. Unfortunately I once played Snake, Rattle n Roll on NES and I couldn't control the game well because of the isometric presentation.

My selling thread, a loose Suikoden II, lots of PS1 stuff, a sealed Primal Rage 32X, a CIB SMS system and more!

    NES

Nice article. I grew up with the NES game that was indeed great in every way; of course the controls took a little getting used to, then they were fine. This article makes me want the Genesis version especially when u said:

The MD version is just pure eye candy in every way imaginable.
^Sounds delicious, especially that the NES game was among the best-looking on the old 8-bitter!!!

Just bought my copy from eBay for £15, CIB. The review and latest feature piqued my interest, so I'll let you know how I get on. Not well probably, I suck ass at games, especially difficult ones.

SRnR was the very first game I EVER BOUGHT! And I mean "ME" Not a present for birthday or christmas. My own hard earned money. And to tell you the truth, Other than the pack-in super mario bros. for the NES, it's the only other game I owed for my NES for a long time. But I definitely rented the complete collection they had at the video store. But I will always remember the day I went to Wal-Mart and bought this game for the NES for $20! I was so proud to finally own a game!

And I've loved it ever since! I think about 10 years ago I found out there was a MD version, and I got so jealous that Europe got the updated SR&R and not the USA! Grrr!!! But I did get to play it on an emulator, but dreamed for the day to play it on real hardware. And now I have thanks to the Everdrive! Good times!
RELAX!! Pretend it's a game.. Maybe it'll even be FUN!!

I played this game two nights ago via netplay with a friend. It was the NES version though. It was fun but the controls run on a diagonal scheme so it took me a while to get used to them. Nonetheless, it's a pretty fun title. I'll try my hand at the MD version.

On the NES I could never beat the last boss of the game, the foot that is stomping around in a circle, on the moon. I even used the Game Genie for infinite lives, but could never attack him with enough hits fast enough, I guess.

IIRC the Game Genie code for super-high jumps was very fun on the NES; u could jump like 10x higher than normal.....

The boxart for the Mega Drive version looks so much better.

I used to have the Game Boy version as a kid, completely different game, quite fun also, I think it had 2-player link up, but I never met anyone else who owned it.
