So, most people here seem to like "americanized" japanese games, whether it's a repro of the original or a translation. But I've always loved the japanese cover design (FAR) better than the european (I'm from Spain so all my games were PAL when I was a kid, of course) and of course better than the american (I never liked the red "Genesis" stripe, or the fact that they removed any manga/anime cover art for the american releases).
That's why I decided to adapt two of my favorite MD games to japanee cart and japanese-style covers
For the first one, I took the PCB out of the genesis cart (which, I gotta say, has a horrible cover art) and put it inside a japanese cart casing (Shining Force actually, which was really cheap). It worked flawlessly, of course, as both X-men 2 and Vectorman are region-free, despite being 1995 releases.
The Vectorman one is actually a repro. The PCB has only a little wire in there. I put it inside a pirate cart casing (one of these fake Fifa 2000 or something like that).
I designed both covers and labels of course.
This is not a repro, but I had the loose cart for Shui Hu Feng Yun Zhuan and wanted to put it into a japanese clamshell with an official-looking cover so...
I like how this one turned out
After seeing these, a member of TheCoverProject.net asked me if I could make a japanese-looking cover for Decap Attack. I chose some artwork by Nigel Kitching (from Sonic the Comic, UK), a little tweak here and there and...
I was a bit too lazy to keep playing in order to get better screenshots though. The guy seemed to like it anyway.
So, what do you think?![]()
