I reseated the cables in both 32x's which were tight. I solved by switching to a model 1 gens though

I have a model 2 Genesis hooked up to my 32X.
Is there anyone who was able to make the game work with their model 2?
Yes, I have two Model 2's and it worked perfectly in both of them. My game is on the way to another board member now ;-)
Yoder,
You you had no problems with the game? I think I will have to take my 32X apart and check the ribbons. Hopefully that fixes it because I really want to play this game.
No, it played perfectly in mine... Yeah, re-seat your ribbon cables (both ends)...can't hurt. There's just a lot of screws inside that damn thing ;-)
For me I blame specifically the 1.0 - 1.8 version model 2. And I'm sure i won't have problems with Yoder's copy either in my model 1. Out of my 7 sega genesis type systems I only have one model 2 so i'm looking for another non 1.0 -1.8 version and will report my results when I get one. Also besides the problem I had, Yoder is correct and that the cables can be an issue as well.
Is Chaotix guaranteed to not work properly on any model 2 if the CD port is not grounded? I have a Sega CD, but I was hoping to not bring it back to school with me to save space and just have the Genesis and 32X. My model 2 is a VA4, if that matters.

There's good odds for certain. If lugging around a Sega CD is a problem, you could always get the 32X Extension Unit. It's a black object that sticks out a bit from the Sega CD port and grounds all the pins, adding stability to the Genesis/32X. Here's a pic of it, it's the object in the upper middle part of the image:

Man that's at least three threads in which we've mentioned the 32x extension unit over just the past few days. It's stock must be up.
Chaotix is the most finicky game for some reason. Both my copies work perfectly fine on my Model 1 with no problems, but I hear a lot of people have trouble trying to get it to work on their Model 2s.
I took my 32X apart and checked the ribbons and everything was OK.
I picked up a couple of Sega Genesis sytems that looked pretty rough but I took them apart and repaired them and this is what I found out.
I tested a model 1 Genesis (non-HD) and 3 Model 2's and "Knuckles' Chaotix" ran perfectly on all but one of the systems. The problem was with one of my Model 2s and not with the Sega 32X. I ran the game without the 32X extention unit. The Genesis that froze also happened with my Sega CD attached so I'm not sure if the extention unit will work. I took the unit apart and cleaned and examined everything and for some reason, some Genesis Model 2s do not like Chaotix. That game is the only game that had a problem. All my other 32X games: Metalhead, Star Wars, Doom, Shadow Squadron, Virtua Fighter and Racer, Blackthorn and others worked perfectly.
It might be cheaper and easier to buy another Sega Genesis rather than find that extention. Sadly, not all sellers test for this. I am going to put up for auction my 2 extra model 2 Genesis consoles. One works with Chaotix and the other does not. I will be sure explain that in my descriptions. I also have a model 1 and 32X combo for sale but
it sounds like you just need the Genesis.
Here is the auction of you need it:

I'm having the same problem with my Chaotix cart. It either freezes when I press start, glitches at the world entrance, or freezes when the first level starts. I am really devistated as I've wanted to play this game for the better part of a decade. I have a Sega CD attached to the model 2, so the expansion port is grounded. Is there absolutely nothing I can do? Besides getting a model one and shelling out the money for another mixing cable? I feel like I want to crawl into a hole and die.
