Default How much is a Sonic 3 clamshell case worth?

I was checking out a local game store a couple weeks ago when a Sonic 3 clamshell case for sale caught my eye (with the game, I assume). I don't know if it has the manual. I know these are pretty rare, but I held off on buying it. I already have a Sonic 3 cartridge, so I figured if they are worth something, I could sell it on eBay and make a few bucks. What do you guys think it is worth?

    Thanks!

Yeah, I dunno where you got that it was rare. Probably the easiest way to figure out if something is really rare or not is to check eBay.

Just one example of many that barely cost much. Not rare.

It may not be rare like 3 Ninjas Kick Back, but it is nowhere near the commonality of Sonic 1 or 2, which came bundled with most Genes'e's sold.

It's pretty common around here, most game stores are sitting on tons. if you can get it for super cheap, then awesome, but don't pay over 10 for the game CIB for it I would say, thats just me though.

Nothing is rare about it. It's the system's most popular franchise; they're everywhere.

Funny how Super Mario Brothers are equally as common and yet they got for $20 cart only.

When you have a stack of seven copies of SMW in your "rare" section, I'm thinking it can't be rare enough to justify that price.

$20 cart only? Kidding? It's $5 or less around here.

Yeah I never saw any of the old Mario games go for that much either. If they're being sold for more than a few bucks I'd say somebody is just trying to rip off hipsters trying to get on the retro-game bandwagon.

You know what, guys? That was my bad. I misinterpreted something I read off a website a while back that said while the clamshell case was harder to find than the cardboard box, it was easier to take care of. Sorry.

There, there now. Are we talking about first runs here, or the mega hits (cardboard) versions? Less than $5 for any genesis game CIB I've only found at thrift stores (and one should go by thrift shop prices as religiously as one should eBay; they're at two ends of the spectrum). But seriously, though, I find a fair price for a "clamshell" version (as the original question implied) to be $15-20 CIB.

I believe it is called the "Mario Tax".

Item related to Mario? Go ahead and add $10-20 to the price
