    Default RAM Cart question

Does anyone know off the top of their head if the Japanese RAM Cart will work on US Genesis hardware? I figure since it's just a memory card it should be fine, but I'm not really sure. I have an X'Eye so the difference in the shape of the Japanese carts doesn't bother me, and they seem to be a bit cheaper in general. I just want to play Shining Force CD without paying another arm and a leg, is all!

Sorry if this has been asked here before, and thank you in advance for any answers

Don't know about that, but I'm wondering about how long those RAM carts last. I have one, and it still has my saves, but how long before it dies? And when that happens, can I replace the battery or something, or is that all she wrote?

Yeah, Jap RAM carts will work on a US system, you'd just have to widen the cart slot to fit it in.

I use a jap RAM cart on an english MD1 & Mega CD 1 set up. works fine. Only issue for me is it doesnt fit the slot, and ive had my MD for about 20 years so i use an adaptor cart rather than file the slot out

My Mega CD 1 console has had game saves on it for about 10 years! And its gone periods of several years without use and they are still there! I havent tried my RAM cart of late but i bet its still fine. I dont think it relies on a backup battery, it cant do to last that long!

Thanks for the replies! Cool, think I'm gonna go for it then. Luckily the X'Eye has a slot big enough to fit the Japanese carts. Cheers!

I bought my cart new back when the system was current, and it still works fine. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it uses a save battery, and it could be replaced.

I ended up finding a complete US RAM Cart for even less than the JP one I was looking at. Oh well! Still good to know.
