    Default Cleaning games

I have a policy for my Genesis/32x mainly that "100%" of all games will be cleaned before they get interted into the system.

Am i being paranoid? or is a dirty game like an STD, you wont know its there, and once you pass it along its a bitch to get rid of? LOL

    I do the same.
It's much easier to clean a cart than to clean a cartridge slot.
As a result, everything works like it was new. I never have to blow into the slot (which actually oxidizes the slot).

Playing with dirty games means you're going to get a dirty cartridge slot so it's wise to clean old games before playing them.

I clean mine thoroughly when I first get them, and they seldom need it after that.

funnily enough, if you rub an STD across the cartridge connectors, it cleans them perfectly...

    (...it works for me anyway)

Last week i saw some genesis games in a local market, all of them was in a very bad shape...dirty..oxide...dust...spiderweb...ripped labels....well...my eyes bleed when i saw that...i knew i had to do something..so i rescue them and give them a home..

There were about 26 games in total, all of them in bad shape....i buy them all for about $20 dls....the seller was about to throw them away...

First i tried some games, and i noticed that some boots up others no...so i try to clean them properly....

I first use Isoprophile alcohol with a Qtip...and remove all the dirt...in some games was the sloution...but in others thats wasnt enough...so i desasembled the cartridge and 1 by 1 pass with sand paper over the connector...i must say that some games had a lot of oxide in the terminals...

When i buy them i was aware that some games will not work..but after i clean them ..All of them runs like new!!

Sorry if my english is not very good, but its not my natural language... i hope all understand

Something to remember. Alcohol is great for stuff like oils and corrosions and whatnot, but it can't dissolve things like sugars. When I'm cleaning laptops which have had drinks spilled on them, I wash the boards in distilled water first, then finish with alcohol.

i thought we were talking about cleaning games?

KY jelly doesnt come into play whilst cleaning.....im talking totally straight interaction, non-lubricated cleaning....

KY only interferes with connectors - and can even cause them to rust!!... so be careful (...oh yeh, and never follow my advice)

    cheers

All my used game carts are disassembled and cleaned inside and out, other than VCS, Colecovision, 5200, and 7800 ones where the screws are hidden beneath the label. All game rental store "void if removed" labels and such are removed with a heat gun and goo gone.

Usually, I find that the plastic shell has years worth of crud along the seam where the two halves come together. The worst ones generally come from smoker households where years of brown nicotine buildup must be cleaned off.

All pins are polished and cleansed in 91% isopropyl.

Some of the more difficult cart cases to get apart are the Genesis EA titles, mainly due to the funky yellow plastic clip. It does not stop me and they get the inside and out cleaning treatment as well.

I don't think this is obsessive at all, just sound wisdom.
    It is finished!
