I agree with you; people complain about how S3/S&K was unfinished and whatnot... but man, at least those games are polished.

In SCD, you have a time travel element that was never fully implemented, choppy looking scenery, rings in the middle of solid walls, etcetera. The levels are a confusing jumble of platforms, walls, and springs and the boss fights are some of the least challenging of the series. The special stage is a travesty, with terribad hit detection on the UFOs.

I have the game and it's fun to play, but it is easily the worst of the series.

This is very correct. What was with the springs, God 'o mighty!
I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.

How is the time travel not fully implemented? And does not the layout of the levels change when you time travel, thus making those "rings in the middle of walls" accessible? These complaints against the game confuse me. Or are you just frantically digging up any dirt you can like Knuckles trying to find a piece of the Master Emerald?

    Ok, well maybe Battlecorps.

And I see Sonic CD needs to be explained to the confused masses once again.

From that list, I'd probably go with Sonic CD, but Ecco CD is close - I've played it over the last few nights and it's really sublime. Sure, it's very hard, but the soundtrack makes it far better than the Mega Drive version.

I'm hoping to get a Memory Cart so I can play some of the RPGs like the Lunar games and Shining Force CD.

And what's with all the hate for Sonic CD. Sure, it's different from the Mega Drive games, in that it's more about platforming and exploration rather than just speed (Sonic 2) but these differences are what makes it unique and enjoyable. It's like an expanded and elaborated version of Sonic 1.

Final Fight CD. Sonic CD is also fine, but I like stock Genesis Sonic 1,2,3 and Knuckles more.
Never cared about either Lunar game, Phantasy Star 4, Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger are much better games.

I picked Eternal Champions, but I equally love Sonic CD, Lunar Eternal Blue, and Shining Force .

I would have also added Stellar Fire as that game is the only 3D polygon game I have on Sega CD and it's impressive to show off what that system could do.

Wow, taking it so personally... were you a game developer for this one?

Look, i know that those things become accessible depending on the time period you're in. It still looks like a jumbled mess. I could have the best reason in the world as to why my desk is messy, that doesn't change the fact that it looks like hot garbage.

The levels are enomorus and go far beyond the high-middle-low paths in other sonic games. That should be a good thing, except that many have no clear path whatsoever. So you have levels that are dramatically more complicated - and then four versions of that more complicated level - and it just discourages exploration.

The time travel was supposed to have an effect on what happened at other points in the game, including the degree of control that Dr. Robotnik had in the third act. The game is the exact same whether I avoid all time travel or not. Plus, the time warp is a break from the flow of the game, especially if it's because you hit a post without meaning to. Really, though, what's the point of such a significant mechanic if it ultimately has no effect on the game other than making a level a little easier after you play search and destroy for five minutes in the past?

I'm not saying it's an awful game, nor that I don't appreciate it's influences on the genre, but it is vastly overrated and the worst of the 16-bit series.

I really like Snatcher, but I may be a little biased seeing that Blade Runner is my favorite film.

    Less talk more action!

Sonic CD definitely. It's my favorite of the series by far. Don't listen to the naysayers, OldSchool. You should give it a try to see if you like it or not. Also, the Sega CD has a lot of great games that are worth your time. There's probably a lot more than 5 games that you'll like.

Not saying it's not worth it, just that it's not the best of the series nor is it close. I think the only reason it is so vastly overrated is due to the amount of people who actually had a Sega CD and played it back in the day.

Correct. 5 is fine for a 32x list, but you should look further into the Sega CD library. A lot of great games, most pretty cheap.
