Thanks chokai, I tried this one already, but I tried it again from your link still without success. I'm using Winips, and I've also got a genereic ROM patcher from MIJET and it won't work with either. Am I doing something wrong?

WinIPS should not be the problem. Do you have the right .bin file? You need "Mortal Kombat II (W) [!].bin"
Screw that - just do a google search for "mk II unlimited genesis rom" and click on 8th link down...
This is the site I found first, it is a .bin file, but IPS patcher asks me for a .ips file so it won't work. Is there some other way to apply the patch? Also, there is only one patch in the zip, even though the author says there are two types. I'm doing something wrong I'm sure.

That file is already patched. It should work fine.

I've always said that I'm not too IT, but I've finally managed this little task! Downloaded a free file unzipper (didn't know I'd need one at the start of this thing) and got to work. It even works on hardware using the Everdrive! Got me a good version of MKII to play on the Nomad now, sweet!
Thanks for all the help folks.

I was gonna say "have you unzipped the file?" but then i saw you mentioned having .bin and .md files,
So i figured you knew about unzipping already.
Also the new MKII Unlimited won't be long now!
Wait -- is Smoke releasing a new version??
Neo Vamp, aren't you re-creating the arcade stills for this new revision?
You can never have enough
I had NO idea, it's a very gradual learning curve this computer stuff. I also had no idea how many exclamation marks (!) my last post contained, for which I apologise.
Is it true there's a new version? if so, bitchin. Also, is there a patch (I can patch now) available for Panorama Cotton and perhaps Puyo Puyo Tsu that anyone knows of?

Yes I was, and everything has now been put in the rom by Smoke.
I believe he's doing final testing right now, so who knows how long that will take.
After that i don´t know what Smoke will do, though i have heard mentioning of
stripping out some added stuff and turning the hack into an arcade edition.
(if that happens i´m so burning an eprom to put into a spare MKII cart i have)
If thats the case then i´d really like to persuade him to look into the music,
because there´s quite some musical themes missing in MKII for Genesis,
And i really want those back.
Sadly the MKII music engine has no documentation at all, so making music for it would be quite difficult.
So i´d like to do one of the following.
1. contact the guy who wrote the engine, i believe i read in an interview here that he´s on facebook.
2. find a good documented music engine, maybe that could be implemented and the arcade music could be converted to it.
(maybe it would even sound a little closer to the arcade then)

Very cool - I, for one, am grateful.
I'm probably not the only one here who agrees with you. The sound can definitely be reworked, and removing all the extraneous crap from the port can open up more space for missing voice samples, extra animations, and a reworked audio engine. How much space remains to be seen, and I'm no coder, but I would THINK that it would be possible to fit it all on a 24-32 meg cart, leaving the door wide open for a repro or for use on a flash cart. After that i don´t know what Smoke will do, though i have heard mentioning of

Well right now the game is pretty much 32M (with all the art and stuff)
but i am hoping to convince Smoke to cut out the extra stages (and secret fighters and their bio's/endings) so the resulting space can be used to add a few more missing samples and cut sprites.
Then hell yeah its repro time, no more cut down MKII on our systems.
one guy even redid the character select colors, looks totally closer to the arcade.
Upper left = Arcade,
Right = Genesis
Bottom = that guy's color edit.
