    Sonic Hands-On: Sonic Colors (DS)

Sonic The Hedgehog has had mixed results in his platform outings since he roared off the Genesis, but his handheld adventures have a pretty decent track record. Sega continues that trend with Sonic Colors for the Nintendo DS, bringing fast-paced action and adventure in another game that pits the famous hedgehog against Dr. Eggman. We've given it a complete hands-on, so read the full article and see if this one is worth adding to your library.

I really enjoyed this one. It's a little too short but the challenge stages help with the longevity. The chaos emeralds are also a bit too easy to obtain but considering you still don't get the reward of being able to blast through levels as Super Sonic it doesn't really matter to me too much.

They've improved their level design from the Rush games and thankfully allow you to skip the story after the migraine that was Sonic Rush Adventure. There's not nearly as many cheap sudden-death pitfalls as the previous DS releases and although I liked the Hideki Naganuma tunes of the first game the songs in this one are very catchy and traditional Sonic fare.

I thought the Wisps were going to annoy me but they're a pretty good gameplay mechanic that changes the game enough to give you a fresh experience but not too much that you don't feel like you're playing a Sonic game. There's also no side characters to crowd for the spotlight.

All in all a great effort by Dimps. This is the kind of Sonic game I like to see. They should have stuck closer to their Rush formula for Sonic 4.

The fanboy in me screams "'TEAM SONIC'??????".

Sorry, I liked the review otherwise.

Colours on the wii was superb, and I was suprised to find that the cutscenes that tell the narrative are actually really funny, how does the ds version stack up to the wii version? I'd love to give this a try, but don't have a ds..

Colours is definitely the best sonic game I've played for a while, unleashed was almost there, there were elements of that game that were really good, but I think that the sonic team have found a really goo formula thats fresh for those relatively new to sonic and those that have been fans from the start.

Really enjoyed the review. When I first saw Sonic Colours, my first thought was "wow, they bothered to angloise the game title" and my second thought was "this game title sounds a bit gay - I think I'll give this one a miss", but after Sebastian's very encouraging review I might have to pick up a copy. Awesome stuff from Sega-16.

The two versions seem rather dull to me; not terrible, but nothing that is going to 'save the franchise/company' or such. SEGA's mascot titles needs to be stunning if they are to be remembered a year from now.
