    Default Problem with my 32X

It plays regular 32x games just fine, but not regular genesis games. Audio can be heard when playing a regular genesis game through the 32x, but no video. The regular genesis games play just fine in the gen v2 itself. Cleaning all the connectors multiple times made no difference. Any ideas?

Edit: Can a mod please move this thread to tech aid section?

Have you tried cleaning to connectors on the 32x? Probably not is since it's playing some games just fine. Also you could try opening it up and making sure those white strips of death are securely fastened:

What I don't understand is how those ribbon cables get loose so easily (and quite commonly). There has to be an explanation. Does it have anything to do with the thickness of the cable or the connectors?

IDK that's a good question. I am just glad that more often than not they are the reason for a 32x not working and that it's a relatively easy fix.

I too am having a problem with one of my 32X systems. It will recognize genesis games but only up to the TMSS past that it is just a blank screen and with 32X games it will not get past the SEGA screen.

Yeah I have tried that, this weekend I intend to soak all of the boards in a small tub of alcohol.

Check the link in post #2. Some call them ribbons, I call them strips. I am not sure if they are even termed the white, "strips of death" by anyone but that's what I have come to call them. Basically, in more cases than not, they are the reason for a seemingly dead 32x.

Yep, I have the same problem. Re-seated the cables multiple times. Time to get out the multi-meter, I guess. I agree that re-seating the cables is a must-do first attempt, but I think there are more problems that are gonna come up with these fifteen-year-old 'shrooms.
