Default Is there a 2xSAI stand alone hardware filter for your retro systems?

Do they make such hardware that could take s-video or composite input and output it to your HDTV with these kind of graphic filters? Or is this just possible with software emulation?

Edit: For example does this http://www.hdtvsupply.com/composite-...converter.html really do the same thing? Kind of round all the pixels, or is this item very pointless?

This should be in the Blast Processing forum, but yes it's perfectly possible, i don't know anything that does it, but most certainly can be done.

It's nothing more than receiving the input, converting it into a bitmap, applying the filter (maybe a cheap arm processor?), and then reconverting it into HDTV output.

Besides "TV" filters, filters like HQ2X or 2xSAI work directly on bitmaps, they have nothing to do with emulation other than it being where they are commonly used.
    This thread needs more... ENGINEERS

Well, then I'm sure it's obvious to you that I don't know of any devices that do that.

If you really need graphics filters, why not get that cheap Eee PC thing that's real small and can work great in a TV environment. I forget what it's called exactly, but it sounds like a solution. No hassle with modding an existing console, you could use any emulator available on Windows (and what the hardware could support). I thought that PC was only $200 or something like that.

Gotcha... So it's possible, just noone has invented it yet... hhmm.... Also.. WHERE IN THE HELL did the Blast Processing forum come from!??

Well obviously what I'm looking for is the feel of playing on real hardware, but with the nice graphic filters. And I have a few consoles that just don't run very well on emulators.. Jaguar, 3DO, Saturn... None of them have great emulation... And what got me thinking about it is, I have a Multi-Input Switch for all my S-video and Composite inputs. 4 consoles to the one box, and the one output to the TV. Works great, everything looks great, and I can keep all my consoles always connected without pulling the TV in and out, etc. etc...

And if there was a REAL filtered upscaler that could just a be a pass thru from the multi-input switch to the TV, it would work for all consoles! That's my idea anyways....

Just tape wax paper to your screen - it'll give you the same effect.

That is the most pointless thing ever.

I'd recommend to give RGB a chance. It's better than S-Video, requires no mod and works with most if not all your consoles.
All you need is an RGB-SCART cable for the console you want to hook up to your HDTV and a RGB to Y'PrPr component transcoder.
If that doesn't work with your TV I'd try this HDMI converter

I don't own one, but I believe the XRGB has an option to add scanlines to the image, then plug it into the VGA port of your TV (if it has one.) That might be a good option. You can also buy standalone scaler boxes that are much better than the crappy scalers built into the TV, but you're talking some serious money to get one that's good.

Yeah, I know all of that will make it nice and crisp, but I'm not looking for crisp, sharp pixels. I'm looking for THIS!

as shown on this post http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showpos...4&postcount=60

But without emulation! Just a real time filter for any input!

Edit: Or this! Which is hq3x filter, I really love the way the mario games look with these filters. Original Xbox emulator had quite a few nice filters, but suffered in lowering frame rate.

There might just be a way.. A TV tuner supported by DScaler + assorted ffdshow Directshow filter. Unfortunately most netbooks/notebooks don't come with a tuner so you'll have to invest in an HTPC solution, or simply hook up your PC to the HDTV and get a tuner for it.
