The PS2 version is widely considered to be the best, as it has less slowdown. The XBOX/GC versions were just ports of it. The XBOX version is very close to the PS2, and the GC comes in dead last due to extra slowdown not present in the XBOX version as well as additional glitches. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Lol The PS2 doesn't let you save items for crying out loud= enough said(what a big let down that was, what a bad port). Sliow down is almost non existant, that's how super rare it is.

Edit: Is this correct, the XBOX version can't be played on the 360(good one MS, I thought every game was BC, evidently not Gauntlet Dark Legacy).

I never heard of that. And I just noticed that on IGN, the PS2 version has the highest score, but the other versions are stated to be better in the text of the reviews.

Valis III on Genesis was an instant hit with me back in the day, I'd compare it to Castlevania III easily. Valis II on Turbo CD just didn't do it for me. Valis III on Turbo CD seemed to be better, but also didn't hook me. Super Valis IV on SNES is an atrocity, oh wait, I'm speaking in forum terms, I didn't like it and wasn't entertained by it. I haven't played the NES game (is it NES or Famicom?) or the Genesis version of Valis I, or Syd of Valis. I used to wonder whether this was the 'rebel' Castlevania series, but it doesn't have the same consistency in gameplay to even compare.

Donkey Kong Country, yea, brave fellows you and Dave both.

Good episode. I was hoping Joe would rip on DKC more than he did. DKC3 is really the only game in the series that I like. Valis seems pretty mediocre.

    Joe,

You gotta give Donkey Kong Country Returns a shot. It's the only DKC game worth playing in my opinion. Second favorite game on the Wii.

To j_factor: That's IGN for you, their grading of games is completely useless(for many reasons, but you hit on one of them there). All of those so called professional review sites are pretty bad, but IGN is by far the worst one out of all of them.

I loves me some Valis 3! I have to play through that again soon.

I've been kind of on the fence about Donkey Kong Country Returns, but it looks damn good. I'm going to have to pull the trigger on that one soon as well.

Great episode guys! The ending was awesome!

Valis III is a genuinely great game. II and IV are pretty good on PC Engine as well. Just the first one is lame, and Syd is hilariously awful.

I guess I'm way in the minority on DKC, because the first one is my least favorite of the three. I found it pretty uneven. Some of the levels are great, and some are very lame. The second was an improvement in every way, and the third was more of the same. I thoroughly enjoyed DKC 2 and 3. I still haven't played Returns.

Just a head's up Joe, SD stands for "Super Deformed" and is the term used for characters with small bodies and large heads. There are whole series based around this concept like SD Gundam for example.

    Thanks a lot, Joe.

I think the last 10 episodes delivered a hard to imagine improvement on your show in all aspects. For me it feels like it's getting more and more fluid (all parts of an episode seem to be nicely connected while you and Dave share your thoughts and comments always in the right moments), fun and easy to watch.
The production quality (music, sound and visual effects, edition...) is always improving and I have to tell you that I noticed a bit of improvement in almost all episodes, so I just want to say thank you for putting so much love in it.

Initially it was just a very fun video game show to watch (already more enjoyable than any other on the Internet) but now I have to say that I played and discovered dozens of new good/great games thanks to Game Sack. Some of those games were released for systems that I don't own but most of them are games for systems that I do own and never would know about or would never give a chance if your show didn't exist...
Thanks for how much you made me learn about the SMS awesomeness (and enjoy it!) and how many Genesis/Mega Drive good games you made add to my extremely fussy list of "worth playing titles" that already took me years to build based on insane research, thousands of gameplay hours and a lot of money spent on games, consoles, dozens of controllers (I always try to give a fair chance to the games and sometimes you need to use a specific controller model to be able to do that - to take the most out of the games), TV, hi-fi stereo, video converters...

After all, I'm also glad to say that having watched all Game Sack episodes I can't remember a single game analysis that I found unfair and completely wrong. In fact, you and Dave are always doing it damn right IMO.
Looks like you guys never talk about a game that you didn't played for many hours during a good period of time (something that is very rare nowadays and several reviewers seem to ignore: to play a game during 20 or even 100 consecutive hours will never give you a well-founded opinion like if you have played the game for months or years); feels like you try to NOT base your analysis solely or mostly on your fond memories about a given game or system, you do some good research about all games you present, you always try to compare all relevant versions of a game (I love this approach), you analyse the technical aspects using good sense (different expectations based on the hardware capabilities of the platform and the time when the game was released, for an example); and, thankfully, you don't talk about a game just to say "I reviewed it". Those can sound like very simple things at first but the fact is that most of people don't do it and some also feel insulted when you try to point how fundamental those concepts are.

    You rock, guys!

I think he already knew that...
