    Official Mega Driver Thread

For those of you that have never heard of them, Mega Driver is a Brazillian band that plays heavy metal covers of Genesis tunes, as well as some from other games on other consoles. They rock, seriously. We interviewed them a while back and are planning to do so again, since we love 'em so much! Head over there and check out some of their cool tunes!

Check out Nino Mega Driver rockin' Sonic's theme!

They're not bad, better than that other hard rock band who does video game covers (forget their name). I have a hard time getting into the heavier metal, though. Most likely it is because of the fans... they are a weird bunch and are to be avoided. They all love to give the Texas Longhorns sign with their hands all the time... WTF?

What is with these metal covers of songs?

We have people who do it with anime, Sega games, and what next? The Ding Fries are done video?
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

Not that I'm one who likes "heavy metal" rock, but, way to go with the stereotype there.

That's them. They are OK at best. But their sound is so thin. Oh well.

Stereotypes are often true, especially in this case. Go to any heavy metal concert and watch the fans. Most of them will almost instinctively do this:

It's almost as if they can't help it. What it is supposed to signify is beyond me. Maybe it helps make the music sound better or something. Fans will even do this when posing in random pictures that have nothing to do with heavy metal. They created the stereotype, not me.

I've been told variously that it's the "rock on" sign and the devil's horns. Similar to the Westside symbol I guess.

Megadriver are pretty good, that Genesis guitar is so cool.

I wish they had more Sonic sounds, but who am I to critisize? The idea is awesome and some of the tracks are great.

Joe Redifer: The sign usually stands for the Devil in this case. The fans (like me) do it in concert to show that they enjoy it. Posing at random pictures with the sign is to show that you are a heavy metal fan.

Buy stuff at the Magical Game Factory, WaterMelon's crowd funding video game development site!

Do YOU have any games you want to get rid of that haven't been reviewed on the site and needs to be beaten for the sake of this project? Send 'em to me and I'll review and beat them! I'll pay for shipping of course. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

I don't really like them that much, the production isn't exactly top-notch and sometimes there's some false notes in there. It all contributes to killing the overall experience.

Well Joe, you have to wonder, what came first, the Aggie sign or the devil sign first?

President Bush made the Aggie sign in another country and they were offended because it was the Devil sign to them...

I'm pretty such they aren't trying to make the aggie sign lol Also, The Mini-Bosses are from Massachusetts....so again, Im SURE that's not what they intend

'Sprinter' from Super Hang-On sounds great on a metal guitar - I've no idea why the Mega Drive version is so quiet. After Burner's 'Final Takeoff' is pretty cool, but just about everyone has done it. 'Wicked Child' from Castlevania is a great tune, but I can't place the game it comes from.

As for a suggestion, I think Scrap Brain Zone would sound incredible - maybe the boss theme from Sonic 2. Both have got great drum sounds, and would sound great on a guitar.

    ....

Next metal show I'm at, you better believe I'll throw the horns in the air and scream "TEXAAASSS LONGHOOooRRRNS!!" followed by an extended windmill headbang.

MegaDriver are okay. I really don't like the guitar sound.. the production has improved, but it's still strange in a cheap and bad way. It seems that the dude insists on a constant double bass assault to ensure that the cover turns out "metal." Even still, I like it, and it's neat that the focus is upon the Genesis, but there are many better covers and arrangements of game music elsewhere (www.ocremix.org, www.vgmix.com).
