    Default SuperTux MD

I am going to make a version of SuperTux for the MegaDrive. I will only use the graphics and level design from supertux, and if possible the music The game engine will be written from scratch by myself to learn from the experience. To convert the graphics i first need to finish Gentile but i thought i should post my plans here to see if there is intrest in a "new" platform game.

This thread is for keeping track of the progress i make.

I really hope you're converting SuperTux 2 and not SuperTux (hint: both are the same game, the main difference is that the former is, huh, a complete version).

I was looking at both, but SuperTux 2 has a more organized folder structure and the forest level. The slopes are going to be a huge challenge, i have now clue on how to program them. I do have to resize everything, since 32x32 pixels for the coins alone is a bit too large i think for the MegaDrive. I will make a demo with "shadows" to test the size of things.

Thanks for the positive replies, i was a bit worried since this is not really a new game.

Please tell me you weren't seriously thinking on using the original sprites as-is...

By the way, 16x16 chunks will do. Coins are about the size of a chunk, if that matters (basically, shrink everything down to 50% of the original size).

No, but i was not sure about the right size to use. I was looking at the rings in sonic and they are 16x16 too. i just resized the BigTux sprite and it's now 24x32 pixels.

16x16 is the size used by pretty much all the SMB games (and SMW), if that matters.

Are you a graphic artist too? Since you'll obviously be needing to make new graphics.

Sounds interesting, I look forward to the progress

@Sik: I did not know SMB and SMW used 16x16 for the blocks, thanks. It's easy to scale to just 50% of the originals

@TmEE: Why is it not a good idea to announce it so early?

@Bramsworth: I would not call myself an artist, but i think i am good enough to convert the graphics. I don't need to make the graphics from scratch, only resize and reduce the colors.

not a good idea because you may never know how long it would take to get anything anywhere... I announced my upcoming MD game once... its been like 3 or 4 years now, and things are not anywhere worth mentioning (though there's more to it).
