Default Video Mod Service for a CDX?

Hi all. I just got a CDX, but unfortunately, the ape who owned the unit before me did quite a bit of damage to it. The major issue is that after playing for a few minutes, the video drops out completely. It comes back if you tighten the a/v cable and push up on it a little, but that only works so long. I've tried using a different cable, but the problem persists.

My question is: Do you think this is a problem with the a/v output socket or is there likely a deeper problem with the CDX's video?

If it's just a problem with the socket (which I suspect), I assume getting the system modded for s-video or rgb would solve problem. Is there anyone you can recommend who has skill and experience at modding CDXs? Thanks for any help!

It's probably just the jack or the area around it if you can bring the video back by pushing on the connector. And fortunately the connector isn't excruciating to get to like some of the CDX's components, so it shouldn't be hard to repair. I'd give it a go if you felt like sending the thing to Canada.

There's no need to modify the Genesis to get RGB out of it. They already have RGB on the AV connector. You just need to get a cable for whatever RGB compatible TV/Monitor/etc you intend to hook it to.

I'm not completely clear on what method is needed to get S-video out of the CDX's video chip. Also, the unit's a bit cramped, so I'm not sure where you'd put the jack. If you have something compatible with RGB, I'd start there.

Thanks for your response! I didn't realize all the stuff that was needed to get RGB out of a Genesis. I thought it could just be modded to have component cables go straight from the unit to the TV. I've been researching it today and it seems like a worthwhile project, but if I were to go that route with the SCART cable and all, I'd still have problems with the video because of my faulty jack, correct?

Also, do you have experience working with the CDX and if so, how much would you charge to fix my jack? Thanks again!

I have 2 CDX which I've repaired and modified to eliminate the funny scrolling video interference you often see on the composite line. I could do the repair pretty cheaply if you got it to me. I'm in Vancouver, Canada if you want to look up shipping prices.

To get component video out of ANY Genesis you need to use an RGB to component converter. It's not just a simple pin to pin adapter, the two are quite different.
