I think the two games Chilly is talking about is Virtua Racing Deluxe (compared to Ridge Racer) and Virtua Fighter (compared to Tekken/Toshinden).
Get outta here Da_shocker, you don't know what you're getting into...

DA's right this time, I was just blowing smoke. I know full well that the PS1 is four to eight times the amount of polygons per second than the 32X. I do, however, love to mock the first three year's library and its general lack of three dimensional gameplay when the 32X had this from the start.
Again though, graphically Toshinden is pushing more than 32X Virtua Fighter. While Virtua Fighter is leaps and bounds a better game, graphically Toshinden out does the 32X version, and probably even the original Saturn port.
Get the PC version of FF7 the video sequences were all done by playing AVI's with rendered polygon models over the top. The discs contain a folder with all the AVIs, so half your asset problems are already resolved. If you want an AVI to do this with Chilly drop me an email...
Given CORE's relationship with Sega at the time, it's a shame (for Sega at least) they didn't end up getting picked up by Sega rather than US Gold (and then Eidos). I wonder if CORE ever approached Sega over that issue prior to the US Gold merger. (even prior to Tomb Raider, CORE's technical prowess -and generally good games- should have been very attractive, especially with the upcoming Saturn, and especially given CORE's impressive accomplishments on the Sega CD -which is a good indication that they could have pushed the "difficult" Saturn architecture too)
Hell, Tomb Raider itself probably would have ended up a fair bit better off as well. (not only being more heavily optimized due to focus on that version, but quite possibly better support/documentation of the hardware through their direct connection to Sega)
A NEW MEGAMAN!!!!!
too old for video games huh?
You know, its funny, because I was playing Soul Star on my SegaCD and I was thinking the same fucking thing at the time. Not about Tomb Raider specifically, but Core in general, they were a great Developer and I think a Core/Sega-Developer/Publisher Partnership would have been awesome.
If I recall, Core was to Sega like Game Arts was. It was assumed that Core would continue to support Sega first up until Sony paid them off. I think it was some time after Tomb Raider II that the founders left the company while complaining about Sony forcing them to become a sequel farm.
A 32X Shinobi, a 32X comix zone, 32X ristar and 32X proper Sonic game...but Shinobi most of all..
and arcade perfect ports of Outrun and HangOn would have been nice.
I would have liked to see alot more ports of 2d arcade games for the 32x at the time, theres a ton of arcade games that would have been good 32x games.
A port of Mega Man X would have been pretty cool.
An arcade perfect Outrun
Cyber-Razor cut sir? - To be this good takes AGES - Raúl be with you.
This is probably what SOA was thinking when they pushed the 32X - a cheap add-on to the hugely successful Genesis that would allow them to push out a bunch of (nearly) arcade perfect ports of popular arcades in the US. It's too bad they didn't get the chance to do more with that.
