What good does an AMD processor do for a laptop with an Intel socket motherboard?

AMD has been behind in the game for quite some time. Even their best Quad-Core is a pretty mediocre matchup to the QCs that Intel has. The best QC that AMD has, the AMD Phenom II X4 980 @ 3.7 GHZ, is pretty much an overclocked 940. The cache memory is 2M of L2 and 6M of L3; they cut corners by using more memory in L3. You over-clock a Q9550 to 3.7 GHZ and it would slap around the 980 in perfomance. The i5-2500k would stomp both processors.

Those are pretty expensive Da Shocker! Is your current Laptop worth spending that much money to invest in a CPU?

I can get them all for under 200 dollars so money isn't that big of a deal.

gamevet: Actually, no because AMD is still the best performer for price (not to mention unlockable cores in late phenom CPUs)

It is true that those expensive as shit Intel CPUs are not really matchable by any AMD CPU (which are much cheaper in price to begin with)... BUT, the ability to get a lot out of like a 70 bucks CPU is unique to AMD.

tl;dr, AMD is the better choice for people who have a normal sized budget

the best processor is the one that takes the least clock cycles to preform an instruction
lets say you have two cpus that cost the same
one is 3ghz but takes 2 clock cycles to do an instruction
another is 2ghz but only takes 1 clock cycle to do an instruction
you would over all be better off with the 2 ghz one because if every other thing was the same about the cpu except above then the 2ghz would overall be faster
