BOOM! My favorite Contra!!!!!!
Das war der Hammer.
No disrespect or anything but how about stepping off the throttle a bit? Every day you post some UBER ROXXOR IPOD GREATEST EVAR thread. While your enthusiasm is good, seems over the top.Originally Posted by daminmancejin2
Back on topic: C:HC critically speaking is really a bit overdone IMO. The game runs way too fast, and because of that, overemphasizes the need to memorize the levels, and progressively get better at not dying at early levels. Seems to me Konami just took the raw processing power of the 68K a bit overboard after working with the slow SNES CPU, and made this mad ass Contra-on-Crack game.
The color palette suffers, and waiting through the slow chat and menus also kills the mood. I'm, a Contra fan but I'd have to critically give this a 6/10 at best. The game is just too raw, the fidelity of the music is shit(although the melodies are good), and Konami just threw it all together to abrubtly, save all the cool SFX of course.
NES Contra: 9.5/10
NES SuperC: 8.5/10
SNES Contra: 9.0/10
Of course Konami's bastard, Treasure and their Gunstar Heroes pisses all over most other Contras. And IMO, Metal Slug series > Contra series, any day, any time.
Contra Hard Corps is amazing. It's very precisely crafted, full of action, and it controls perfectly. The previous Contra games lack the variety, intensity, and lasting value that Hard Corps has.

You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.
Call me wuss but that game is just too frustrating for me. I'd rather just play one of my Slugs. I'm not hard corps enough for that Contra game.
You have NEO hardware? AES, MVS? Have a favorite slug? I favored Slug 1 followed by 5, X, 3, 4, and 2.Originally Posted by Russman
I have a very early model AES. At one time I had all 6 metal slugs, but have been selling them off. Switching to MVS at some point.
I have a fairly low model AES (11,000 range), with Slug 1,3,5....the MS1 is a conv. I just can't bring myself to really get into any Contra type games with these Slugs sitting here....I mean, do I want to play a mediocre action game, or play a masterpiece? I have 11 games and all good, but I've been done with the NEO for awhile now....I just don't want to spend the money. I'm happy with the games I got...although the one game I still want is 1945 Plus.Originally Posted by Electroman
I agree with your ratings hehe. This game is tough at first but you get the hang of it with practice. The characters are cool and the many paths give it replayability.Originally Posted by daminmancejin2
Contra the Hard Corps is in German Mega Probotector (Humans = Robots ) i have two versions of this game your american version and the pal game. The are identic just the Humans turned into Robots
Contra / Probotector is one of the few games, that is in japan easier then in the other world !
in the japan version each life has 3 hit points ! in the german / us versions you are death with a single shot !
however i have finished contra / probotector without losing a credit and i have seen all the 5 endings ! that cost much time ( ca 130 hours ) and its very hard training
for my its aktually the best shooter that i have !
it must be in every collection !
PS: You have said the speed of the game is too fast...
when you have a modified pal machine ( 50 / 60 herz) and switch during gameplay to 60 herz thats fast ! and thats the biggest fun !
PSS the Nes Version's of Contra a great the
I've always wanted to try the Genesis version of Contra because it supposedly does things that the Genesis was never able to do like scaling and rotation. Believe it or not, I never really got into the Contra series. The only one I ever played was on the SNES and I was pretty impressed with it even though, for me at least, it was pretty difficult. I heard the Genesis version is equally tough. Don't know if I could handle it in my advanced age LOL!
Well, I couldn't. I could only get by in two player mode with a friend. unfortunately none of my friends have the patience or tolerance for humiliation I do. This game is tough.Originally Posted by crazyjoedavola

Tough or tedious? Many call The Adventures of Batman and Robin tough without mentioning that its true flaw is having a horrible sense of pacing.
Not tedius, there's neough variety and changes in the scenery/gameplay to make it fun. Its just too damn tough.

Don't feel bad Mel, more often than not old games are hard as a bitch, Contra just happens to take the cake!![]()
Lots of Genesis games do scaling and/or rotation. It's just not hardware enabled.Originally Posted by crazyjoedavola
That said, Contra Hard Corps's graphics are rather impressive, and the scaling is extremely well-done (I don't recall any rotation).
