Default Need help with burning PS1 Games

I know this question has probably been asked a million times now, but, I haven't found a forum that gives a straight answer.

No, I'm not asking you how to burn the ps1 games, what software to use, etc.

All I'm asking is, is it safe to burn at 8x speed?

I have an older recorder laying around, with a max speed of 4x.

But I'm tired of having to rip my PC apart to burn a few discs.

The software I'm using to burn my discs is Alcohol 120% (Because it has the "PlayStation" preset).
And the lowest burning speed it says for my modern recorder is 8x.
My modern disc drive is a LITE-ON ATAPI iHAP322 DVD-RAM Drive.

Is there any software, that will allow me to successfully burn PS1 Games, at 4x, on my modern disc drive?

So, I have 2 options here, burn at 8x speed (that is, if the PS1 will read it.), or find new software that will force my burner to burn at 4x.

I burn my playstation games at 16x with no issues. 8x should be fine.

It didn't work, the laser won't read it.

I burnt the disc at 8x with alcohol 120% with the "PlayStation" preset.

So that leaves me with one option, find some software that will force my burner to go 4x speed.
The manual to my burner says it can go as low as 1x speed, problem is, the software won't let me.

So could someone recommend some software that will force my burner to go 4x or lower?

You could try the trial version of DiscJuggler, only prob is it limits you to 700mb per disc (there are ways around that though...). Or you could try Imgburn; an excellent free burning software.

Thanks for the recommendation, it burnt my discs at 4x, just as I wanted.
However, now I have an EVEN larger problem.

    My PS1 just died!

Why is it that the simple problems always become huge problems?

It won't show the "boot-up white screen with the diamond shaped logo" anymore.
Just a black screen. The disc spins, and the laser even recognizes the disc, but doesn't start the game.
    Absolutely nothing happens!
The model number is SCPH-7001 if that helps.

I have had at least 20 or 30 ps1 systems come through here and never have I seen one that would not at least show the start up screen. Unless you have bumped something and you are now bridging connections inside. I assume you have a mod chip installed.

Also I never use alcohol 120 anymore unless I have no other option. Alcohol will burn any image file and not ask questions, even if the setting are incompatible. I use imgburn. This software will let you know if something is not right. For instance I was burning some dreamcast games. I used alcohol and it burned fine as usual. It was an iso file I made with an existing game I had. Went to boot it up and nothing. I then loaded the same file with img burn and it told me that the iso format is not a correct format to use for this type of disk. It told me I need a cue and bin. So I re-read the disc as a .bin file and it worked perfect. Hope I am offering some help and not just rambling. And if you need help getting you system fixed or need to find another modded system I can help you with that too.

@ retrogamer343 = How can I amend a write-speed miscompare got in Imgburn? It always says "wanted x1, got x10". I think my drive may be asci damaged.

No I think this is normal. Either your drive or your media has a minimum wright speed of 10x. This happens to me when I try to wright at 4X I get 16X because that's the minimum of my drive.

I do not have a mod chip installed, I'm using the swap trick to boot my burned games.

I'm not going to install a chip, not after my little "incident" with the XenoGC and my gamecube.
(Not only that, but I suck at soldering TINY wires to even TINIER points.)

I have taken apart the PS1, and by the time I got to the motherboard, the CD-ROM controller was EXTREMELY WARM. Is that normal? Now the system will only start if I leave it unplugged for a few hours, only to freeze either in mid game, or even mid-boot. I checked the board, I didn't see any bridged connections, could it be a resistor or capacitor that's going out? This is the first time I've taken apart this system, so I doubt I could have hurt anything, unless I hit it REALLY hard, which I haven't.

I've had my eye on those little "PSone" slim ps1s for quite a while now.
If anyone is willing to sell one, I am willing to negotiate a price.

All I need is the power brick and the system it's self, however, if someone would like to sell an analog controller, that would be a plus.

Hold on a minute, I found another PS1 I had laying around (SCPH-7501).
I swapped a few parts around and it started right up! (the SCPH-7501 that is!)
But now I've got another problem, my memory card won't work!
Whenever I put the memory card into the 7501 ps1 it "disconnects" my controller.
I have swapped the controller ports, but, it still won't recognize my memory card.
I tried both Port 1 & 2. Any suggestions? The memory card is a blue Sony-brand legitimate memory card (SCPH-1020).
And the controller is a Legitimate Sony-brand D-Pad controller (SCPH-1080).

If you burn the cd with highest speed it will load slower, I burn ALL my playstation backups with 4x or 8x maximum, this lets me enjoy problem free loading with my games.

All my cd backups burnt with 24x have stopped working long ago, this happens because the cd can rot from having unclear pits.

CDr uses badly constructed pits when you burn too fast, slower burning ensures the pits are much clearer and deeper. See the source below for a microscopic comparison.
