How badly was your PVM damaged? Like cracked tube or shell? I hope you get refunded. That's pretty nice of you; it's not easy coming across just the badge.
Does anybody have any idea what is wrong with the picture? I was so excited to play RKA, and the monitor doesn't work...

The seller wrapped the entire monitor in cardboard and sent it on it's way. The shell is pretty well busted, and the tube's neck has been broken, so it's irreparable.

I did get a full refund, which certainly helped.

Send me your address and i'll see if I can remove that badge without breaking it.

As for your issue, I recall there being certain pins on the CMPTR port that required being pulled to ground for analog RGB.

    Here you go.

Okay, thanks, I'll give it a shot. (I failed to read documents properly *Facepalm*). PM'ed about that badge. He wrapped it just in cardboard? or in a loose box? Either way, who would think that a monitor would survive shipping in cardboard alone? I tried grounding pin 2, but still nothing. even when the cable is disconnected, it still displays that line of data. I think I should just bring it into a local shop to see what the have to say soon...

I have a PVM 2030 with a dead RGB port as well. It might be that it's a common issue. Would be good to test the monitor with a known good source.

Do you have composite sync turned on?

Yeah, I do. The thing is, even when the RGB cable is disconnected, it still displays that video-data line :/ And I don't have any other source to test it with, I wish I did.
I'm might go to a repair shop today and ask about how much it would cost to fix it.

Does it do the same thing on Composite video/different inputs? You should be able to test that by changing inputs, regardless of whether there's anything connected to it or not. That looks a lot like one of the test modes you can set in the service menu (At least on my PVM-20M4U, Can't remember the name of the service menu option though......).

The other inputs are working fine, for the most part (except for line A, which gives a constant faded and blurry picture [?]). I don't get that line. I look up how to open/use the service menu. I hope I don't need the remote for it :P (Probably not, so I hope). It's worth a try.

I don't need the remote on mine, it's all done through the front panel, not sure on your model though. Another note, not on my PVM, but on my Sony Trinitron TV I had to do some adjustments in the service menu to get my Dreamcast and SMS working through SCART -> Component converter. I guess sometimes this signal is just a little off from what the TV is tuned for/expecting and it takes some tweaking. Just be careful in the service menu, note down settings before you change them, otherwise you might mess up the working inputs. PVMs are awesome! I've been able to throw a Seibu SPI board at mine and with just a slight tweaking in the service menu I was able to get a stable picture out of it, despite the odd frequency that board outputs. My other TV rolls on it like there's no tomorrow, and nothing I've tried has been able to stabilize it. Good luck with yours!

I'll try finding the service menu code, and using it before I bring it in. Thanks for the help!

I don't think the 2030 HAS a service mode. If it does, I never found it.

I think you're right Jax, I can't find any info on it... I also tried searching for a fix online, no dice. :/

OK, I managed to ask someone to make me a custom cable to connect my PVM 2030 to my modern PC (25pin to 15pin VGA) and it works great, but the geometry of the Sony PVM needs fine tuning.

    Here are the screenshots:

Geometry is OFF 01 by c0dehunter, on Flickr
As you can see, the red markers on top, right and bottom are missing, so the geometry needs to be adjusted.

    Again it needs adjustment.

I would like to adjust the "bent" screen on the edges.

Are there images of a PVM opened? I can only see 4 screws connecting the back panel. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have managed to come across this video. The video description says "Warning, high-voltage." can a novice like me adjust it?

I have the oddest of PVM's.. Used as a prop in The X-Files..

    http://ladymanson.com/galleries/tv/T..._display_media
    http://ladymanson.com/galleries/tv/T..._display_media
(Side of it seem on the last pic in the bottom right)

It always faces upward as if it was designed to be on a desk and sat close too, like a computer monitor. But it IS A PVM, and has the 25-pin computer port, along with a VTR port, S-Video, and BNC composite video..

Today it sits here right now.. Sadly, by the time I got it, it was already scuffed up all over it.. It was used in other episodes of X-Files, and other stuff too, like The Fly 2 (yea that CRAPPY movie). And no, I don't usually handle props like this, with boxes on top and stuff, but, it was in terrible shape, so it doesn't really matter now anyway.

But it DOES work well electronically!

    And RGB Quality: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...gon/genpvm.jpg

In the X-Files clip, they had it on line A, which is Composite mode.

I just bought this cable for my PVM 2030 http://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/s...cart-convertor

Codehunter, there are image adjustment pots inside the monitor on a PCB.

To be honest, I am not 100% satisfied with the image quality of my SONY PVM-2030.

    1) Compared to my 13" Commodore 1084S-D1, the scan-lines (which I love to have, don't get me wrong) are STRONGLY pronounced, and the actual R, G, B pixels standout prominently: Maybe this phenomenon is a feature of the Trinotron tube, but the image quality of my 1084S-D1 is much sharper/smoother. (Maybe it is the size of the 1084S-D1, but everything seems sharper.)

    2) I managed to open my PVM-2030 and adjusted many settings, but I still could not get to produce the image that I came to love and adore with my 1084S-D1.

    3) Using my SONY PVM-2030, when I launch different emulators, the image is completely off, so I have to spend time and manually adjust for each individual emulator. On my 1084S-D1, amazingly they stay pretty much centered and the way I like, (not to mention that 1084S-D1 features the adjusting knobs in the back for easy access, unlike the PVM-2030, which force me to leave it opened all the times for constant fine tuning.)

Obviously, this is a very subjective matter, but in my opinion, my 1084S-D1 is capable of producing a more sharper image. I will post some images to prove my observations.

After all the time and money spent, I guess I am back to my trusty Commodore 1084S-D1 for retro gaming emulation, but I think it was worth the try.
