    Default Anime: Has You Seens?

In the past couple of months, I've really been getting into anime. I've watched all of Cowboy Bebop and loved every minute (except for the one episode that was absolutely terrible. If you've seen Cowboy Bebop, you know which one I mean). I've also seen all of Baccano which I absolutely loved and wish there were more than just 16 episodes. I've now started up watching Fullmetal Alchemist and I'm up to around episode 10. It's a lot more cartoony and silly than Cowboy Bebop or Baccano, but I really like the story even though the occasional enormous sweat drop or strangely large mouth that's bigger than the character's face when they're yelling or silly hairstyles happen and get on my nerves.

Anyway, is anyone on here very big into anime? I know exactly zero people who are which isn't unsurprising considering I live relatively far north. What are some of your favorite animes if any at all or some of your most hated. Or, have you ever seen anime? If you've never seen anime, see this anime right now:

It's like if Quentin Tarantino went insane and made an anime. And like any Quentin Tarantino film, it only starts making sense after you've seen 1/3 of it.

I am an Anime fan, and own many anime LD's. Some of my favorites are: Captain Harlock, Akira, Slayers, Gall Force, Dirty Pair, Crusher Joe, and the list goes on.

I'm really not a fan of any post-2000 anime, it's just not the same to me, I'm just not fond of the current style that anime has. I grew up with the older stuff, and that's what I enjoy the most.

I enjoy anime. Some good ones are Claymore, Berserk, Fate stay/night, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (the story in this one just blew me away), Yu Yu Hakusho, The Soul Taker, Boogiepop Phantom, Scrapped Princess, Macross, Aura Battler Dunbine... among others. Watching Panzer World Galient. It's pretty interesting so far!

Also, my mainstream recommendation is Monster. If you haven't heard of it, look into it. Skip all that Fullmetal cardplayers and whatnot. That shit isn't fun for older generations like it is for the youngins.

well, the problem with cowboy bebop is that it transcends being just an "anime". it's truly one of the best overall shows ever created. i mean don't even get me started on the soundtrack...
so there's nothing that can follow up that show really.

lately i've been watching Durarara! because it's on adult swim as well. it's pretty good, not amazing though. i've had time to watch anime recently but it's hard to find really good series

I'm a quite lazy anime-watcher, I started with it in late 2010 and think I have about 30 complete series or so on Dvd, as well as a collection of movies on both Laserdisc, VHS, Blu-Ray and Dvd. I always buy more than I have time to watch, but right now it's summer so I'm trying to watch more than I did last spring. I also prefer anime from the 80s and 90s before modern anime but there are some anime that was made after 2000 that are worth checking out.

Currently, I'm watching The Meloncholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, The Vision Of Escaflowne and Trigun. I have to say that I'm quite dissapointed at Haruhi Suzumiya, I found the entire concept being quite boring and not so special. Beside, Haruhi herself is a bitch to me, I hate her and I think I'm going to sell my Dvd once I've finished the series. The Vision Of Escaflowne was far better than I expected, usually I don't care about mecha (other than Evangelion) but this one caught my attention somehow. It reminded me of Panzer Dragoon somehow. And Trigun, I'm just watching it because I got it cheap in a big anime-lot that I bought some months ago. It's quite hard for me to get into the story, but I ain't giving up.

I got some other modern anime that I'm going to start watch right after I finished the ones I'm currently watching, I think I'm going to watch Noir and Berserk as soon as possible. I also got the first volume of Nadia, which seems to be a quite good anime. This may sound a bit strange, but I would love to get my hands on at least the first three volumes of Maison Ikkoku.

I've appreciated movies more than any party I've ever been to, any time I've masturbated, any music I've ever listened to, any girl I've ever loved, any game I've ever played, any food I've ever eaten, any tv-series I've ever seen, any trip I've ever done and any life I've ever lived.

I can't freaking stand 99% of anime made these days, and anyone who keeps up on this scene knows exactly why. Now some of the older stuff, or the shows that made it stateside to Toonami when I was a kid? I'll watch Big O, Cowboy Bebop, Blue Sub #6, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Ninja Scroll, and Macross Plus just because they're damn fine entertainment. I'll even watch Outlaw Star, Trigun, Kenshin, or DBZ just for old times sake. But I'm too old for this moe/Lolita crap.

I've surprisingly seen a lot of animes this year, (thank you p- irate -b ay) but my most favorite of all and still watching is One Piece, that's got to be one the best anime's ever. They still release new eps every saturday on watchop.com at night , I'm on ep 502

when I was around 9 and 4kids would appear in saturday mornings, I JUST COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH THEY CENSORED ONE PIECE WHEN THEY AIRED IT > : ( I didn't even know about all these censor issues since I was new to the show atm but dam.

    Here's what I mean,

how much would you be willing to sell it for? i've had a notion to see the series my favorite Anime girl of all time is from, and this just might be my perfect opportunity!

I can understand you in some ways. I bought Toradora and it was just crap to me, sure that the artwork is pretty but the series itself was terrible imo. I still think that there are exceptions, such as all kinds of "slice-of-life" series. A good example of that i Lucky Star, it's a quite slow but very peaceful anime that gives me a nice feeling throughout the whole series. Azumanga Daioh is alot like it but not as much moe, and School Rumble makes me laugh hard just when I come to think of it. But I completely understand what you mean. I think that the best anime series has already been made, and those were made in the 80's and the 90's.

me, i'll NEVER be too old for that.

still, i must agree, as far a pure storytelling and overall mechanical design work is concerned, the 80's and 90's are where it's at...

yeah, i know about that. never did really appeal to me, though. chara design is too silly for my taste. sometimes on occasion it can be cute, but usually just silly and cartoony.

now, regarding Haruhi, i've actually only seen the first three eps on YOUTUBE. what actually instantly sold me on the series, was nothing more or less than Miss Mikuru Asahina.
i fell in love with her back when i first heard about the Suzumiya series back in 2007.

i nearly bought the first series several times since then, but the series notoriety for it's "Zaniness"
coupled with what i have heard and seen in regards to Haruhi's legendary rough teasing of Mikuru, made me initially shy away.

i have been thinking about it more lately, however, and decided a little while back to go ahead and at least give the first episode a shot on YOUTUBE.

before i knew it, i was enjoying myself, and watching two more eps. i decided to draw the line there, and just eventually
pick up the 1st series Complete collection, so i can see the series "Properly" on my Hi-Fi/A/V system.

i've no idea if i'll enjoy the remainder of the show as much as i did those initial three episodes,
but i figure that not only is the animation exquisite, but if nothing else, i'll surely enjoy seeing my little Mikuru-chan rendered so beautifully.

and if i have to put up with the obnoxious Haruhi and her constant horseplay with poor Miku in order to do so, then so be it, i suppose...

    i might as well put my ass totally on the line here, and go ahead show you all the pride and joy of my Anime collectibles collection; all i ask is that you just kill me softly;

I got into watching anime in 2004. I really only bother with stuff from the 70s and 80s, when it was fresh. I'm in the middle of watching Metal Armor Dragonar right now. I think anime in general went downhill in the 90s. Everything started getting bleak and negative. I don't really know how to explain it, but to me anime had an air of optimism about it in the 70s and 80s. It just don't see it in a lot of 90s stuff. Today's anime is garbage. The sci-fi genres that I liked from the 70s and 80s have gone out of style with the japanese. Everything I see these days is either weird supernatural crap, harem shows, or school based dramas. And they love loli girls. All the modern crap I see on youtube or hulu has loli girls. They make my skin crawl and I feel like running away screaming when I see one.
You know who else loves Sega....

Let me suggest you a great series: Baccano. The guy who wrote it is the same guy who wrote Durarara. Baccano is easily one of my favorite TV shows of all time. In my opinion, it tops Cowboy Bebop purely because the story is so much more complex and interesting. It's also supposed to be quite a bit like Durarara, though I haven't seen Durarara so it might be a lot more different from Baccano than what I've heard. It's also in a very Quentin Tarantino style, as I've said in the first post of this thread, since there are a bunch of plotlines going on at once and they all come together and make sense in the end. It's great, but sadly, it's short; only 16 episodes.

Haruhi is actually a pretty good series if you don't try and take it too seriously. It's actually one of the few animes I prefer to watch the dub of as the Dub is really good. They actually made it funnier in the dub.

This was the episode that got me hooked on the show:

Lucky Star is a bit odd really. I did watch the whole thing and it does have it's moments. Best way I can describe it is it's kind of like Japanese Family Guy. The majority of the humor is based on randomness and pop culture references. However since it's Japanese Pop Culture it's a bit hard to pick up on. However if you play games and watch anime you should get a decent amount of them like these:
