    Default Joe Miller Interview suggestions

Sorry if Melf already started a topic on this (I couldn't find one though), but anyway:
I though it would be nice to have a topic for topics for discussion on Melf's eventual interview with Jow Miller.

This has come up before, with much of the suggestions compiled here:
http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthr...ate-16-bit-Era (albeit the previous thread linked in google archives is now gone, I also have saved html documents I could post if anyone's interested)

My best suggestion would be to explore the East-West relations between SoA and SoJ regarding the 32X and Saturn without any derogatory comments. Secondarily I would like to know if there was ever any reason for SoA to think that the 32X would be the flagship product, and if so for what amount of time.

He'd probably be most insightful on the technical side of things (since he was the head of R&D for Sega of America), but any recollection of the political/bureacratic/management end of things would certainly be welcomed as well. (particularly from a technical PoV, more so given Bayless's comments on how shocked the SoA engineering staff was about the Saturn's release schedule -so much so that some of said staff left Sega over the debacle)

I'm not sure if he has any info on various unreleased/prototype Japanese projects (like early incarnation of Saturn, Mars, Jupiter etc), but just finding out how much info SoA was let-in on for SoJ projects would be interesting to know. (let alone if SoA -or SoE- had any input on the direction of said designs).

As addressed in the linked threads, Miller should also be able to shed much more light on the specifics of the SGI deal (in terms of when that actually happened and the state of the chipset -as well as specifics on the SoJ engineer teams' evaluation and ultimate rejection of the project), and do likewise for the SoA/STE+Imagesoft hardware concept/evaluation effort (and related offer for partnership) with details in terms of when that occured and just what was accomplished before it was shut down. (and whether any of that work was taken under advisement by SoJ for the Saturn project -or Mars for that matter)

I'm not really sure how that relates to the topic, but now that it's out there, how about this:

I also happened to just find this neat 1995 PC based animation of another one of Stephen Moore's three singles from 1981. (interesting description on YT for that video too)

I was just expressing my level of depression with the general state of video game history. I'll get to your videos when I've found a good gun.

Just a bump to let it be known that this has happened. Look for the interview in a few weeks.

Sweet, I'll be looking forward to this. I hope you were able to pass along as much of our (sometimes rambling) inquiry suggestions as you could manage.

Also, slightly interesting that this almost coincides with the release of Curt Vendel's (and Marty Goldber's) first installment of their complete Atari history series. (Atari Inc. Business is Fun) Well, that was actually 2 months ago, but still.

Very little of the interview involves the 32X, but I did try to include suggested questions when possible. Miller was actually more involved with software than hardware, and the conversation focused mostly on that.

Aside from the 32x, I was thinking more in line with addressing some of Tom Kalinske's statments, particularly those directly involving Miller like the SGI negotiations/proposal and the Sony/Imagesoft collaboration and proposal. (both in terms of how deep collaboration went on software development and the specific proposal/plans for collaborating on a next-gen console -and the list of desired hardware features that was compiled)

I did ask about the SG deal, as well as the relationship with SOJ, among other things.

The interview has been transcribed and edited, and it is now being laid out in WordPress! Look for it in a few weeks (we have another interview ahead of it).
