In Seinfeld when they are in the video rental shop you can see some genesis games in the background.

Let's not forget the immortal scene in 'Swingers' when Vince Vaughn makes Gretzky's head bleed in NHLPA93.

Come to think of it, in 'Mallrats' Brody was playing Genny hockey as well. I believe it was NHL 94.

No he was playing Saturn. They were playing Genesis in Chasing Amy though. better not start talking movies though or some OCD person will give us a lecture about getting off track.

The movie Rumble In the Bronx with Jackie Chan, there's a kid in a wheelchair playing a Sega Gamegear without a game inserted.

Good catch on Mallrats, it's been a long time since I've seen it. However, regarding getting off topic, the OP asked about sitcoms or movies.

Don't know if this counts, but I got a kick out of it when I heard Farnsworth say it:

I can't think of any shows with a Genesis, but I was watching Menace II Society the other day and there's a scene with a little boy playing a videogame. They don't show the screen or system but you can tell from a side view that the big black bulky controller is a 3 button genesis pad. I do remember the NES in a few movies though, again no TV shows. Also I remember seeing a N64 with Mario Kart in The Sopranos tv show (best show EVER)

You ever noticed that no matter what game console they show on a TV show, they always use Atari sounds for the Sfx?

^totally. Kids will have 360 controllers in their hands and you'll here Atari Pac-man sfx. I've heard those Pac-man noises so many times. For anyone who knows anything about video games it's very noticeable and distracting.

That and they all play "button mashers".

I remember the Game Gear in Airheads with David Arquete playing through the magnifying glass

On The Drew Carey Show, he always had a Sega Saturn sitting in front on his television. I remember reading an interview that asked Drew about the console being on the set, in which he replied that he had a love for Sega consoles.
