Default Is it necessary to have a second backup ram cartridge?

I just got 2 of them... The Japanese ones, CIB.
And I would like to know if anyone of you ever used more than 1 backup ram cartridge for your Sega CD/Mega CD game saves.
The question is: Should I keep the two cartridges or sell one of them?

    Thanks.

I only have one, and my biggest fear is what will happen when the battery dies. Can I replace it, or do I need a whole new cart? I'd prefer replacing it if possible, as those damn carts get more expensive every day.

You can replace the battery. It's not quite as simple as popping out the old and putting in a new since they usually use a solder tab, but it's hardly difficult, either.

TBQH, I'm amazed at how long cartridge batteries have lasted.

I have 2 of the NA carts. I think the only reason to have 2 or more would be to keep all your game saves if you have a lot of games. Especially since there are some games that require a lot of space.

the GAME SHARK that i use to bypass my SATURN's region lockout also doubles as a memory cart.
it uses FLASH ROM making a backup battery unnecessary.

i got mine CIB for $20 off the BAY, and the damned thing has proven itself to be quite the value on several levels,
least of which being it's primary intended purpose as a VG cheat device...
