    Default Saturn mod chip

I know this forum has it's share of people who can't help hacking up their consoles, so I thought I'd ask about something more particular.

Does anyone here have experience with this mod chip in a model 2 Saturn that has a 64 pin IC? http://www.robwebb1.plus.com/saturn/...hipguide_2.htm

I wanted to buy one of the more common chips, but it turns out they don't always work out on this Saturn model, which is the one I'm currently stuck with. Then I found this chip which appears you can make manual adjustments to (via specific soldering points) to conform to more specific models of the Saturn.

I just wanna know if anyone here has used this in similar manner and had success, or if anyone knows that this will definitely have me covered.

I have that chip in my model 2 Saturn, but I don't remember if it was the 64 pin type or not. In any case, I've had no trouble with it at all. I bought all my Saturn stuff from consolegoods; they're a great store.

Can you recall if you had to make any particular solder bridges on the chip's board? Thanks for the input BTW.

I THINK I did the v0014 (new) mod... I seem to remember doing that solder bridge. I'm fairly certain I did NOT do the v0019 mod, and virtually certain I didn't do the v0014 (old) mod. Sorry if I can't be more specific - it really didn't stick since it worked fine and I didn't have to think about it anymore. I suppose I could disassemble my Saturn to look, but I'd really rather not have to if I don't need to.

Knowing for certain would only be a quick glance at the front of the CD drive's board (2 perfect square chips = 64 pin model 2), but I wouldn't ask you to do anything that might somehow be an inconvenience. You've pretty much narrowed down the possibilities pretty well anyway. Sounds like you had a 32 pin variant, but your account still puts weight behind the chip's reliability.

I modded mine first try and it works perfect. I never even used a soldering iron before or bothered to practice first.

So like the dolphin in Ecco Tides of Time says: Do It.
