I never said it was, Just making the point how speech and a nice long intro added to the game and really helped you get into the game. One game where speech and a nice FMV intro would have really helped would have been Red Dog on the Dreamcast

The voice acting in Lunar can ruin the mood too at times. It's mainly a problem in the dramatic/emotional scenes (as Kamahl pointed out in a previous thread) as the actors struggle and fall flat with the emotional scenes
The Voice acting in the USA version is brilliant imo , I like it more than the Japanese version , especially on the white Dragon (much better inthe USA version) . Voice acting really added to Wing Commander and Rise of the Dragon on the Mega CD too , and I loved the voice acting in Star Fox 64 . When done right its much better than reading endless bits of text, mind you when done bad (like in Shenmue 1& II) it can take away from the overall effect
    Panzer Dragoon Zwei is

it's the voices and fmv (with voices) that make panzer dragoon saga to this day so timeless and fresh while final fantasy 7 feels horribly dated

play shenmue 2 on dreamcast it has great voice acting in japanese and the english voices aren't bad either except the townspeople or other minor roles. definitely not a huge detraction from the game although I massively prefer the japanese voices

    Srsly!?

I don't know why Sega didn't take whatever they had for the MCD version of PSIV and put it on the Saturn though it's not like it would've been released here anyways.

I don't understand why the lead singer from Papa Roach would appear in such a thread, either. :/ Anyways, in an interview with one of the creators of the game that was featured on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, she admits that PSIV was originally planned for Sega CD.
    The internet doesn't apply here.

Here is one of screenshot (from a 1991 issue of Mega Play) of an unidentified Phantasy Star game which may be or may be not Phantasy Star: Return of Alis. Also, we have to keep in mind that there was going to be an enhanced Sega CD port of PS3 that was never released, so this screenshot could be from this game as well. So, there isn't any proof at all that this screenshot is from PS: Return of Alis.

I realize this is an old post, but that screenshot is most likely from Sorcerer's Kingdom. Based on identical tree sprites.

    It's Brad Pitt.

I dunno if anyone happened to play it ever, but talking about VA in games in a dead topic, anyone ever played Beneath A Steel Sky? Definitely one of those VA makes a game better games.

Nice find. These pics could definitely be from Sorcerer's Kingdom. I'll check the game and make a better comparison. Also, thanks to the person who found out about the video on Sonic's Ultima collection. I'll watch it and post something about it here.

I just finished playing Sorcerer's Kingdom, from beggining to end. Definitely, those pics do not belong to this game. The characters art on the pic from Phantasy Star: Returno of Alis is very different from the actual art Sorcerer's Kingdom does use.

Snatcher on the PC Engine CD and Sega CD is a remake. The original versions lacked voices (although it still had cutscenes). It was still just as impactful. To me, the music does more for snatcher than the voice acting.

Those are SRPGs, not traditional JRPGs.

Snatcher has very little voice acting proportionate to the amount of text in the game, same as most CD games of that style/genre. The voice acting actually ruined the Sega-CD version for me and I'd love an option to read subtitles instead. The Sega-CD intro from the PCE manual is only in that version. Act III is basically a two hour cinema and appeared for the first time in the PCE version. The game seems to have been well received before that, as a disk based two act game. Konami was able to release it for so many platforms.

If we're strictly talking about the appeal of the Sega-CD version to English speaking players, I think that it would be about as popular without voice acting as its impression on people seems to be influenced by hype.

To be sure, however, Act 3 in the PCE version is much shorter than Act 3 of the Sega CD version.

I actually have both versions of the game (US Sega CD, and JPN CD-ROMantic) and I've played through both. I was just pointing out that voice acting didn't necessarily make the game, as it existed well before voice acting was even possible.

As an aside, I really liked the dub personally. It's one of my favorite dubs ever.

I can't tell if you're agreeing with me, or arguing with me. :/
