Beastball is a game that was to be ported to the Sega Genesis by Spectrum Holobyte. The game was released on several other consoles as Brutal Sports Football and Crazy Football on the Jaguar and Amiga.

The game plays out as a futuristic sporting event. Your goal is to have your team score by throwing or drop kicking a ball into the goal of the opposing team. You can punch or tackle opposing players, pick up weapons like swords, bombs, and shields to attack the other tam, as well as pick up items like a rabbit or a turtle that will effect your in game speed. The game ends when time runs out or you decapitate every member of the opposing team.

At the end of the game, money is awarded for how many points you score, how many players you've killed, and if you've won. You may use this money to heal players, or to increased their stats.

There are 3 modes of play: League, Unfriendly, and Knockout. In league, you attempt to bring your team to the championship. You can record your progress with a password. You will compete against other humans as well as various other races. In Unfriendly, you choose a team and play against the computer or a second player in a single, best of three, or best of seven format. In Knockout, you can create your own 12 man tournament using any combination of human and computer players.

Cool! Gotta love these Amiga ports with the lowermost rows of tiles all black =P I suck at sports games too, so :/

The filesize ($FB8E0 bytes) is very odd and unusual for chips... did you strip out the padding?

What happened to chips 0-3 on that thing, or did you dump all of them but forget to put the first four back?

Net: Yup, works on an Everdrive (I assume that's what you meant) perfectly.

Andlabs: There are now chips 0-3, I added the stickers to the EPROMs denoting which spots they occupied on the dev board. Just in case it wouldn't dump properly in my Retrode, I wanted to make sure I would be able to put them back in the right spots had I decided to dump the chips individually. The game was quadrupled at the very least when it was originally dumped, so I chopped it where it repeated the first time. Not sure of the exact size, but the usable game data is definitely the most important part to preserve.

I hope you guys enjoy it!

Thanks for this (and the Dragon´s Lair Proto), MrMark0673!

Awesome to see these games surface!

Is this the end to the summer of protos? I hope not, although this was already awesome! I still hope someone leaks the unreleased Indy´s Greatest Adventures.

OK, so game may or may not suck (and music sounds like some placeholder stuff), and dunno if it's a shitty port or not, but...

Holy shit injury time! I was playing and the match ended up 2-2. So, sudden death, right? You know, keep playing until somebody scores... except they took the concept of "sudden death" literally and instead you have to kill all your opponents. And by this I mean you need to throw them, then kick them on the floor to death until their head flies away.

I don't know what you think, but this alone outweighs any shitiness in the game =P

For Matt and I, the Summer of Protos is endless! I don't have many other unreleased Genny stuff, but we still have 100+ NES protos to release over time. Glad people are enjoying the releases, very nice to have everyone be able to play these lost games!
