    Default Favorite Horror Movies

It's October so naturally I've been watching a lot of horror flicks. I've been watching mostly 80s horror lately (Nightmare series, Friday the 13th series, Critters, etc.). As far as all-time, my favorites are The Haunting (1963), The Shining (1980) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). I also really like the Coffin Joe movies. So what are your favorites?

    Child's Play
Anything based on Stephen King stories
    Friday the 13th series

I'm not into the really gory stuff or zombie stuff either.

    01. The Thing (82)
    02. Dawn of the Dead (78)
    03. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (74)
    04. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (78)
    05. Psycho (68)
    06. Frailty
    07. The Descent
    08. The Exorcist (73)
    09. Session 9
    10. The Strangers

That sounds about right for my top ten of the moment, although my top 4 are always in my top ten.

On a side note, I just recently rewatched all the Nightmare on Elm Street flicks. The sequels are pretty terrible. I remember thinking those movies were cool when I was a kid, but a couple of those sequels are borderline unwatchable to me now.

I was never a huge fan of the series but anything past part 3 is terrible.

The Thing (and I guess I enjoyed the prequel too)
    Alien series
    Predator series
    The Blob
    Species 1 and 2
    Event Horizon
    Supernova
    The Fly
    Sphere
    War of the Worlds
The 6th Sense (although, with this one, since its not Sci Fi, it tends to get boring by now)
    Phantoms
    Mimic
    The Relic
    Hellraiser: Bloodline
    Jason X
    Red Planet
    ...

I'm not really into horror movies, but I did like the "Alien" Series. I also enjoyed "The Dead Zone", if you can count that as a horror movie.

    Child's Play
    Hellraiser
    Poltergeist
    Re-Animator
    The Howling
    An American Werewolf In London
    Alien
    The Fly (1986)

I agree with that assessment with the exception of New Nightmare which is arguably the best sequel of the series.

One of my favorite horror movies because it always makes me laugh:

    Spider Baby
    A Nightmare on Elm Street
    Fright Night (the original)
    Conqueror Worm
    The 6th Sense
    The Others
    Shutter (the original)
    The Ring (remake)
    Night of the Living Dead
La Morte Vivante aka The Living Dead Girl
Paura nella Cittą dei Morti Viventi aka City of the Living Dead
    Frankenstein
    The Bride of Frankenstein
    L'Orfanato aka The Orphanage
    Hellraiser

.... and I will never understand the fascination lots of people have with Carpenter's The Thing (unsympathetic characters, no pacing, too artificial)
