Here is the link to where Tim has the audio samples http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewt...ghlight=ym2413 again I must have been VERY lucky as you will discover. It was lucky as at the time these were the only 2 FM games I had lol (or maybe it was just R-type...shit it was so long ago)!

Rev 1- 0108 HABG works fine (must have ass'ed this)

Rev 1.1 (both the same) - 9904 HAAG Both work fine

I will be getting another board from him in his next batch, I might grab a spare YM2413 from him. He also thought it strange mine (at the time) played fine. Unfortunately as I said I have removed this FM board as I upgraded to the Rev 1.1 as it was easier to get to work with Wonder Boy 3 and Time Soldiers.

Edit, I just realized that audio file of Scramble Spirit sounds shit. Mine DOES not sound like that..... It sounds heaps out of tune...

Fake. That chip is notorious for sounding completely off from a real Yamaha chip, and many of them have broken instrument ROMs on them. I would need a sample from that YM2413.

Some people claim this chip is real, but considering it's made at the same factory as my 9836 HAAG chips, I say they're both counterfeit chips.

    I was planning on either

A/selling that Rev1 board for cheap or
B/using it for this consolized GG project (since it is harder to make work with WB3 and Time Soldiers, which won't work on a GG anyway since it is missing 2 of the required signals).

I find it strange that the sample he put up of Scrambled Spirits sounds so off. Perhaps when I compared the audio file of R-Type (I DEFINATELY had that game when he posted the audio files, now thinking about it I may have gotten Scramble Spirits later) it was that one game that was ok.

This is a problem that plagues me, is having time to do more than just throw a cart in the console, listen to it for 30 seconds and that is it. For the last 4-5 years I have had 2 jobs, job number 2 was only ever supposed to have been a hobby (ironically enough to pay for my other hobby-RC planes/helicopters which I haven't touched in years). This is an error that will be fixed in the new year when I tell job number 2 "no more".

Thanks to the information provided in this thread, I can confirm that connecting a pull-up resistor rated at 10K ohms to DTACK fixes the system instability.

Yep. Although VR with a 6.8KOhm pull-down resistor works fine. It would be worth giving a shot to that modification with Chaotix.

    That's a different issue.

10Kohm pull-up resistor, you say? *gets 32X to solder in pull-up resistor*

Is that from the service bulletins?

Sorry to bump this but can anyone provide a schematic of this mod for me? I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to this kinda thing. From the posts here I assume that this'll fix the VR compatibility as well as stability for the Game Genie, but will be otherwise identical to having not performed the mod?
