    Ps2 PS2 Problems!

Been having a couple PS2 issues lately... and man do they suck.

Issue the First: My slim PS2 (model 70012) decided it wanted to not work anymore. I turn it on, the light turns green... then back to red. WTF. I've looked into it online and the only thing remotely useful anyone could say was "get a new one". Is there any other way around this?

Issue the Second: A friend of mine gave me his old PS2, (model 35001) and thankfully, it has no issue reading dual layered games. I popped Rogue Galaxy in and it loaded up just fine. Ditto with a PSOne game. However I tried Tekken Tag Tournament, a CD based game, and it came up as "No Data" instead of "Disc Read Error", thankfully. I found that if I reset the system a few times, it would finally load. It's pretty annoying if I wanted to play a CD based game. Again, I looked online and surprisingly few people were any help. Something about applying TAPE to the disc, but there's no way in hell I'm doing that to my games!

So a slim PS2 can EASILY be gotten at any Gamestop for like $40... is it more trouble than it's worth to fix?

I would look into tweaking the POTs on the fat PlayStation 2. Sounds like the laser might be a bit weak.

As for the slim PlayStation 2, you might have a blown fuse inside the system. You'll have to take a multimeter to all the fuses on the motherboard to see if there's a faulty one. If the fuses are fine, I think the problem could be either a bad power button or power supply.

The PS2 (and any other DVD device) has 2 lasers, one for reading CDs and one for reading DVDs. So you can have a problem with the CD laser and still play DVD games. You might revive it with a little bit of pot tweaking, but go easy on it! You only need a hairs turn to make a difference.

I'm not very mechanically inclined at ALL, guys... I'm starting to think it would just be worth paying Gamestop a visit :/
