Thumbs down Pitfall 32X just sold for $286 on Ebay???

What's going on here? Spider man Web of fire doesn't even pull in that much and is supposedly the most valuable 32X game. I know prices fluctuate up and down but this seems excessive. Could it possibly be someone trying to drive the price up to add value to their stockpile of Pitfall games? Here is a link to the auction.

This auction is EXTREMELY fishy to say the least... I've never seen a non-sealed Pitfall sell for more than $75-90. HELL, I just purchased a supposed factory sealed one a few months ago for $150 BIN that was sitting unsold on eBay for about a year. I returned it to the seller because I believed it to be an obvious reseal - knowing it was worth nowhere near what I paid at that point.

But yes, Pitfall is nearly as rare as Spider-Man; it's just not as publicized. So fetching a similar price at some point isn't out of the realm of circumstances, but this is just fucked up.

Very strange, and I agree that it seems very fishy.

BTW I got my Pitfall CIB a couple months ago for just $40 shipped -- in a lot with 8 other, mostly CIB 32X games! I'm still not sure how I pulled that off, except that maybe the seller's slightly checkered feedback scared some bidders away. Some of the other games were in trashy shape, but happily the Pitfall was quite clean. I got Primal Rage in a trade around the same time, so it was a good few weeks for 32X collecting.

It's the opposite for me: I never trust a seller w/ 100% feedback, it's a good indication they hostage feedback from their buyers.

I remember that sealed Pitfall for $150 being on Ebay for quite a while. I was tempted but really wanted to play the game so sealed isn't usually what I go for.

Fishy is an understatement, Opening bid was $100 and it had 2 bids almost as soon as it was posted.

I'd been watching this as well since this is the last 32X game I need. The initial bid was set at $100, and that skewed the price right from the get go. I think that if it was a true auction it would have ended at a more reasonable amount, and it looks like it's an example of someone with more money than sense that really wanted that last game they needed to finish their 32X collection and was sick of waiting.

Luckily, for some reason VG price charts doesn't seem to track 32X that I could see, so after a couple months this will probably fall off the radar until another copy gets listed. In a true auction setting I'm positive it'd wind up closer in the $75-90 range like SpaceFlea mentioned.

I got a boxed complete copy for $8 from a retail game store about a year ago. The box has a few scuffs but everything else is mint.

$286 is an obscene amount of money for this game. If the item was actually paid for, the buyer must REALLY have wanted this.

I know this has nothing to do with collecting, but is this even a good version of the game in comparison with other versions? I played the SNES version but that was back when it came out. So I really have no frame of reference.

just buy it and unseal it. myg od sealed games are the most pathetic thing there is. right now I'm making a lot of money and one thing I plan on doing is buy up as many sealed games from at least sega consoles and unseal them all and resell. so the games can be played like they are supposed to

Especially SNES games. Sealed SNES games are SO RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE right now. Why do people care? It's a game. You should open it, play it, and enjoy it. One day, we will all die. When that day comes, all of these expensive sealed games will be wasted.

I've heard it's pretty decent, there was a thread on here maybe a month ago where people were discussing the pros and cons of each version. I specifically remember refuting the fact you could get Piftall 32X under $10, but I really didn't expect it to go this high. :O

I wonder what was up with 32X Pitfall. The Genesis hardware handled the backgrounds (re-used from the Genesis version) at 60 FPS, while the 32X handled the sprite/foreground layer (which is close in quality to that of the Jaguar and PC versions) at a sluggish-as-hell frame rate that seemed to barely reach 30 FPS. It was very disorienting playing it. Dunno if it's Kega Fusion and the like, but the music (re-used from the Genesis version) is missing instumentation, is this also the case playing it on real hardware?

Either way, the SNES Pitfall was STILL superior to the 32X version IMO.

I bought Pitfall 32x CIB less than a year ago at a buy-sell-trade media store for only $12. Personally I think I over paid it as I really don't care for the game at all. I wish someone would buy it off me for $286! lol I'm still hoping I'll find Spider-man the same way. One of these days....

Depends who's buying and how much money they have to spend. Sometimes there will be an anomaly high or low on a game.

$286 for "Pitfall" on 32X??? Disgusting!
The fictional character Gordon Gekko once stated,"Greed, for lack of a better word, is good". Gekko is sometimes unfairly judged. There is a big difference between maintaining one's moral compass in business and that which operates in one's personal life. In business, the reality is that if you are not willing to crush your competitor, you might as well get out of the game while you're still ahead.
