Default Finally got a Sega CD system!

In the 90s I had a SCD, along with Genesis and 32x, but ended up selling them and all my games back in '99. I have long regretted it. But over the years I have repurchased the genesis and 32x, along with way more games than I originally had. However the SCD system always alluded me. I was unwilling to pay the $100 price tag I normally see the system with. A year or so ago I came across one for much cheaper, but it would not start at all. At the time I did not know of the fuse fix, otherwise I would have tried it before returning it to the shop I purchased it from. Anyway today I was at a Books & Music Exchange checking out all the awesome retro stuff and while looking at their systems I see a Sega CD 2 system for only $49!!! My prayers have been answered! When I got home, I take it out of it's shrink wrap to see a copy of Eternal Champions still in the player! lol Too bad I already own a copy, but this one is much nicer, looks brand new. I've been playing SCD games on my PC via emulator, but playing it on my computer never felt right. Playing it on the real hardware is where its at for me, so happy days are here again! lol

On a side note, another system there caught my eye. It was a Neo Geo CD with 8 games for $280. Not sure if that's cheap or what, but it's the first time I've seen a Neo Geo in a local store. Now that I have a SCD, I'm now on the hunt for a 3DO and a Jaguar!

The Neo Geo CD completely depends on what those 8 games are and which system model it is. If none of the games are Metal Slug 1 and/or 2 and the CD system is the toploader one, I'd say $280 is quite overpriced.

A Neo Geo CD alone is worth $120 or so depending on boxing and hookups, condition. A CDZ is over $200 and a front loader is more then $120 but not worth in IMHO.

A front loader is a lot more awesome than a top loader. It looks so sexy.

That would depend entirely on your definition of "more awesome". The front loading model is just as slow loading as the first top loading model, it also has more mechanisms which are prone to failure. The second top loading model is faster than both the previous, but is also prone to failure from heavy use. If you are a gamer, and not a collector, your most awesome model would be the first top loader.

The front loader does look nicer though in my opinion, it reminds me of the FZ-1. Only more sleak.

Eh. I like my 6 slot Neo Geo Big Red arcade system.. no load times.

But back on topic congrats! That's not a "smoking" deal persay, but much better than some of the jacked up prices you see on eBay.
I myself eventually would like to check out the Jaguar, although I probably wouldn't play it much. I got lucky on my 3DO, it was a local Craigslist find, but if you are patient you should be able to find a fully working FZ-1 for $50. I prefer the FZ-1 over the FZ-10 despite the latters popularity. The FZ-1 is just so sexy and of the two that I've owned, I've never had a problem with them.

I don't think any of the Neo CD systems are all that great to be honest. Sure back in the day Neo Geo CD had it's place, but these days that place is on the shelf. Between the MVS and AES, you can have a pretty definitive Neo collection for not much more than it would cost on CD. Plus the cart systems have more releases overall.

I got lucky with my 3DO FZ-1 too, traded a small Saturn lot + $30 for one and a few games off a cool guy on here.

... Oh, and Sega CD is cool n all that or sumthin...

I prefer my AES, no loading times AND nice labels and gameboxes! The mvs is more economical though, and has some exclusive titles.

If you have no integrity or class you could fill in the MVS exclusives with conversions.

Personally, i have no problem with conversions, as long as they are clearly stated as such and not passed on as a genuine official release if it changes owner. People can do whatever they want with their own stuff.

awesome!! I also love the sega cd.

neo geo cd I wouldn't recommend personally as I hate the loading times and own an aes and the cartridges on aes and their cases are simply brutal!

    I don't!

Also, <3 Neo CD. I'd love to have a front loader so I could keep it permanently in my entertainment center, no room for a top loader.

i'm also a fan of the neo geo cd, I think it's a awesome system and great for anyone that doesn't feel like spending the cash on aes and mvs.

I've always wanted a segacd...but I hate cd roms...so I'm waiting for the ability to use the segacd hardware yet load the gamedata off of some kind of a flash device. And yes, I realize the chances of that even happening are extremely slim.

Also I think the neo geo will offer a much better library than the 3do and jaguar....combined....

As for neo geo conversion carts they won't necessarily run the same. I bought a neo driftout bootleg and an original neo driftout cart. The bootleg had a slower framerate and the original ran smoother. The bootleg wasn't terrible but it wasn't the same either...so I sold it.
