Why are you so negative about this? Don't you see that the guy is trying to make a physical device that well let you play you're games online on you're actual Genesis system? You can add anything to an emulator but he's pretty much trying to bring back the Xband and I encourage such awesomeness.

Getting everything emulated properly as well as having a fully functional netplay component is more work than someone pulling this off. I don't see how it is boring.
There is just no reason to assume that this will work without immense lag and desync issues. The Mega Drive hardware wasn't made for high speed broadband internet. No disrespect to WhereEaglesDare, of course. It's still interesting to see it working, if only for the experience. Just don't expect to actually use it.
    Not negative, just realistic.

I would use it if other members here had it. We could maybe even set up a section for organising games in the future. (if it works, that is.)

So no, it's not subjective. You just missed the point.
If we take your logic, the PS3 is better than the Genesis because the graphics are better, therefore it's "better". What's so hard to understand about the joys of playing with friends/strangers on the original hardware? There's immense joy. If emulation gets you off, more power to you, but don't fool yourself into thinking that everyone shares your pleasures.

Inferior graphics ≠ unplayable because of massive lag.

Sure, but that's irrelevant, since you don't know if this will have a massive lag or not. If it has no lag, what's the problem?

Emulators only allow you to lie to yourself. You sit there, with your keyboard or your blasphemous Logitech Gamepad and you tell yourself, I'm having fun. No, you are not. The video signal and illustrious music goes to your brain, but it doesn't satisfy the hunger your mind has. The hunger for cartridges. The hunger eats you alive. It will take your life one day.

Hey everyone. I'm reviving this post because now I have finally came to a point in my life where I can devote a lot more time to this project. Is the interest still out there? I have been studying digital logic electronics a lot more lately and I have been working on concepts a lot more. I see this as more of a reality than a dream now.

YES, YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES!, Hell make a poll, you'll get tons to of people to support and encourage you.

Just look at the Xband, if such technology could have been done back then for a 16-bit system, then I sure as hell I know it's possible.

Just throwing this out there. Does anyone have any old controllers and some old genesii (genesises) they might want to donate for butchering? I have a handful of controllers, but for prototyping I'd need several just for parts. Doesn't all need to work, the cable should be in good shape though. PM me? Special thanks will be given to you, that's all I can offer.

Broken or working. Any controller ports, cables, controller boards, main boards, etc will save me a significant amount of money when it comes to prototyping. A four player adapter would be really helpful.

I think that the XBand concept wouldn't work as well as the idea I have. With smaller computers and broadband Internet now widely available.

    I'm still very much interested.

If its not too expensive I might even buy one for my best friend who lives on the other side of the world

I wouldn't buy something like this. If I wanted to play retro games over the internet I'd use an emulator that lets me play online. Part of the beauty of retro consoles is you can only play them with someone else in the same room as you sharing the same tv. I hate online gaming it doesn't feel nearly as fun as playing against a friend who's sitting next to me.

It's nice to have TWO options rather than one though.
