    Mad Shops tossing out cases

I was in the game shop in my town yesterday and all of their Genesis games were loose, which wasn't the case a few months ago. I asked the guy who worked there if they tossed the cases and he said they had to because they were "taking up space". I felt like walking out. The store in a nearby town did the same thing not too long ago. Do any of your game shops do this? It's a shame to see all those carts become homeless. I hope the three racks they freed up were worth it.

That's just idiotic. Did it ever occur to them that the cases might have even SOME collectable value?

Go to you local landfill and start digging. We have to save those cases!

Seriously, this stupidity really pisses me off. I hope they at least lowered the price significantly on those games.

It's stupid because in many "cases" the cases tend to be more valuable than the cart.

I'm pretty damn sure that the Vintage Stock on the south side of Springfield, MO (across from Battlefield Mall) does this. The north side location always has a handful of CIB games, but the south side hasn't had a single boxed Genesis game in about a year of visits. They have ~200+ cart-only games.

A convenience store near my house where I used to rent NES games as a kid did the same thing. Another video store about 10 minutes from my house(where I rented many Genesis and SNES games) did the same with some of them, but the few they sold with the boxes were really beaten up, not to mention every single game box in that video store was sunfaded. I bought a factory sealed Mario Paint there about four years ago, and not only was it sunfaded, the seal had been half ripped off! Apparently, when they put their old stuff for sale, some stupid kids come along and start poking at it.

The only older games they have left that they haven't sold is N64, and the boxes are beat to jesus, so I'm probably not going to bother picking up any of them when they sell them.

Seriously what the hell is wrong with these kind of shops? If you are short on shelf space put them in a box as a bargain bin kind of thing. Or they could have the carts on display with the cases in a box in the back, is it really that hard to do?

it's idiotic for shops to throw out game cases for the games, if they made it this long intact then they should stay intact. I refer to throwing away cases as the "gamestop syndrome" since their notorious for that.

    Zetastrike and Genesis Knight:

Go to the offending shops and strongly hint that you will gladly take their next batch of cases and manuals off their hands. Maybe they would more than happy to oblige and you could use them for your own collection or pass them on to happy Sega-16 members for shipping fees or a small profit. Either way it's win-win for all involved.
    It is finished!

Here's a tidbit about the world of American gaming shops:

"They were taking-up space" = "We noticed GameStop does it too, but most importantly, the reason why they're doing it. If we make every single one of our games loose, we'll make all of our merchandise the 'same condition' so that we may be able to get rid of the pest known as collectors and the like. It will instantly optimize sales by giving heed to the masses who don't give a shit about cases or the fucking condition of the game as well as instantly shit on the negligible few who do. Instead of taking-up an hour of precious selling-time with just the one customer, the two-staffed store can now take care of a couple of dozen mass-produced drones in the same time. Optimize profits. Fuck what the people want. The only thing that matters is the end result: The store making money."

There have been many a store in my time that have done this. And their tactic surely has worked great on me. My $100+ every visit on buying retro games have been taken elsewhere where I can spend them on the things I want. I tend to be a glass-is-half-full kind of person, so it's a win-win for me. They don't get any of my money, and I still find a place to spend it on exactly what I want.
