My feedback thread
I'm a fan of the show, but do I consider myself a Brony? Eh, I don't know.
I watch the show, enjoy it each week, talk about it on occasion where appropriate, did some pixel work for the Desktop Ponies program and such (see my signature), and even bought a few of the little figures for the hell of it. But I've been repeatedly turned off by the actions of some within the fandom over the last few months since I first began watching the show back in October. The part that really made me question whether I'd put myself under the label of "Brony" came with the Derpy issue in "The Last Roundup." While I was disappointed with the idea of editing the original scenes and voice (I despise censorship) and talked about it a little on a couple of sites, the actions taken by some members of the fandom were just... distasteful, to put it politely. Hate mail to the creators of the show, to those who were in favor of the change... it was frankly disappointing and ridiculous to see people who liked a show about friendship act like that on its behalf. And I won't even get into the arguments and intolerant nit picking about aspects the show and individual episodes. It's like some people forgot to just enjoy the show.
Now, I'm not saying that the fandom is all bad. I'd be an idiot to say so. There are some great remixes and original songs being made (like this, this, this, this and this), some well done artwork, funny video edits or comics, charities being done, meetups to just enjoy watching the show with other fans, and so forth. There is a definite positive side to the fanbase. But like any fanbase, there are those who just go way too far, times when parts of the fanbase are just outright asinine, and it makes it hard to embrace the idea of being a "Brony" when you see some of what goes on under that banner.
So basically, I see myself as simply a fan of the show that takes part in a small area or two of the fanbase, and I'm happy leave it at that. If that makes me a Brony, then I guess I am... in that respect anyway.
And now, for something related... namely, the sprite work I've done involving MLP:FiM...

To true. In fact, to my view, someone even thinking such things is clearly a pervert with a filthy mind. Seriously - the FIRST thing they think of when they hear that guys might like ponies is that they want to ^&#* them? SERIOUSLY?!?That's really messed up, Dude.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a pervert with a filthy mind, but I thought it was clear that I was just having some fun with these guys. Hey, whatever floats your boat. If you like Care Bears, MLP, Strawberry Short Cake, etc. that's fine with me. But when a thread pops up like this in off topic, that's generally my cue to be a sarcastic ass. No I don't think MLP fans wish to fornicate with animals, and the fact that I went there probably proves that I have a sick mind, but clearly I was just busting some chops here. Lighten up Francis.

Now seriously...

MLP is and will always be aimed at a girl demographic.
girls watch MLP and boys watch GI.Joe, any self respecting guy does not watch a little girls show.
Justice League, Batman, Ducktales, all fine to watch no matter what your age is, but MLP? then you're just in denial.
Bronies are just male fans of the show who are very into the show. I have one nerdy friend who loves the show and have the pony figures. He also have pony wallpapers on his computer and on his iPhone.
I watch the show once and it's just a girl show. If it wasn't for the Bronies the show wouldn't be too popular as it is now.
Nah! You just need to be more MANLY!
In any case, GI Joe was for wussies! No one EVER got hurt in that show, even the bad guys! Watching GI Joe was just as bad as watching Strawberry Shortcake, just with cooler toys.
The writing on cartoons vary, but it's almost always lower on "boys" cartoons than on MLP. I'd rather watch something with better writing than a mindless toy advertisment. Justice League and Batman are not too bad as far as writing goes. Ducktales was rather hit-or-miss. Early seasons of Teen Titans were good, but later ones dropped considerably.
I don't get it, but hey, I used to watch the first couple of seasons of Powerpuff Girls when I was in college, so who am I to judge?

On another note, I did like Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, which had some staff that now works on MLP. I felt that show was pretty well written most of the time.

Part of the draw of the show... besides the good writing, well done voice acting, a nice sense of humor that rarely relies on the toilet or gross out type, the infectious songs, and the rather nicely done Flash-based visuals... is that Lauren Faust created the show to entertain both the kids watching it, as well as their parents. That's why you see little references tucked away in various episodes that the kids won't get or catch usually, but their older siblings and parents would.
A couple of short reads from LF for those interested...
