When I hear about a good sports game, everybody shouts "nba jam, nba jam!" so, in your opinion guys, what other sports game are worth of your time?
my guilty choice its rbi baseball 4!

too old for video games huh?
Mutant League Hockey and Mutant League Football are two that come to mind. Just about the only sports type of game I cannot stand on any system is straight-up NFL football. Baseball games can be really fun on the Genesis (Tommy Lasorda Baseball and World Series B '95 come to mind). Other such sport'ish titles can also be fun, like Minnesota Fats Pool Legends.
Baseball- Arcade style (Sports Talk Baseball) Sim Style (World Series Baseball Games) With out a doubt the best Baseball games of the 16-bit era (no challengers at all IMO).
Hockey- NHL 94' NHL 96-98' (I think NHL 96-98' is the best 16-Bit Hockey game I listed the 3 because they are the same with a roster update). NHL 94' is classic and great/different enough to warrant a look as well. I will say Sega own 95' NHL game had a lot of potential except you can do any quick shots which is a game breaker.
Football- Prime Time Football/NFL 98' Same game basically with a roster update a minor tweaks. I think all the Football games have aged like crap from the era especially the Madden series which I was addicted to as a kid.
Basketball- NBA Jam NBA Jam TE I have never played a sim style Basketball game on a 16-bit console so can't comment on NBA Live. It wasn't until the N64 I started playing sim style Basketball games.
Boxing- Evander Holyfield Boxing Greatest Heavyweights Same engine Greatest Heavyweights has slight improvements. By far the best Boxing games of the 16-Bit era. The games manages to be a sim style game that is still fun as hell. Spent a good amount of my childhood in the career mode of these games creating havoc with my version of Mike Tyson.
Sports Games just another reason why the Genesis was the system to own in the 16-bit era. If there was a system that was unanimously considered to be the "Sports" system the last couple generations that system would be a run away for 1st place in the North American market, it wouldn't even be close.
Shame I will have to limit this to Genesis games only.
College Football's National Championship
NFL 94
NFL 95
NBA Live 95
Mario Andretti
Tommy Lasorda
NBA Jam TE
It is finished!
Tomy Lasorda Baseball, World Championship Soccer, NFL 95, NHLPA Hockey '93, NFL 94, NBA Jam TE, NHL '94 or '95 or '96 or '97 or '98, Team USA Basketball, Evander Holyfield Boxing Greatest Heavyweights, and the wacky Mutant League Hockey and Mutant League Football. I still get a kick out of playing alot of the sports titles. There are so many more titles. I forgot to mention Bulls vs. Blazers and the NBA Playoffs, Bulls vs. Lakers and the NBA Playoffs, Lakers Versus Celtics and the NBA Playoffs, NBA Live '98!
I agree with cowboyscowboys: If you liked sports games the SEGA Genesis did not disappoint!
The fictional character Gordon Gekko once stated,"Greed, for lack of a better word, is good". Gekko is sometimes unfairly judged. There is a big difference between maintaining one's moral compass in business and that which operates in one's personal life. In business, the reality is that if you are not willing to crush your competitor, you might as well get out of the game while you're still ahead.
Prime Time
Holyfield
Joe Montana
...NBA Jam is barely a sports game but that too
never got into console RBI after playing it in the arcade
I wish there'd been a tetherball game to play with the Activator
My favorite!
I feel like a dummy for not mentioning Joe Montana Football. And yes it's a great game!
I was actually looking through my sports games and it's pretty impressive how many sports personalities appeared or gave their endorsement for game titles. One title that I discovered in my collection was Prime Time Football which features Deon Sanders on the cover. A couple of other games were "Mario Lemieux Hockey" and "Wayne Gretzky and the NHLPA All-Stars".
Team USA Basketball which has a set of 3 SKYBOX basketball cards featuring the USA team. Among the sports titles I have, this one is my favorite as it features both Karl Malone and John Stockton! The Utah Jazz was and still is my favorite team! I only discovered the cards recently when I decided to pull out the manual.

Jerry Glanville's Pigskin Footbrawl
Madden '94
NBA Hangtime
Sports Talk Baseball
Super Baseball 2020
Windjammers (last I remember playing it)
"I can't hold it!" - Vapor Trail Pilot
Football: Tecmo Super Bowl
Baseball: Sports Talk, World Series 95/98
Hockey: ea's nhl series. cant go wrong with most of em
Basketball; nba jam, nba jam te, nba hangtime
I truly am surprised how some of you guys think highly of TLB. Who would've thought that the console's first baseball game would end up being one of its best. I think it rocks too.
How come no one speaks highly of "World Championship Soccer", "Arnold Palmer's Tournament Golf" and "Pat Riley Basketball" (the latter of which was the console's best-selling game pre-Sonic)?![]()
Tommy Lasorda Baseball is an awesome game too. I'm not sure if I like it or Sports Talk Baseball more though, they're both really solid baseball games.
Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf is good too but it's a little difficult if you don't know the game of Golf, the game doesn't guide you through everything like most golf games do these days. Even then it is difficult, though quite solid.
Pat Riley I'm going to have to disagree with though. That game isn't terrible, but it's very aged and is a product of it's time. There are much better basketball games on Genesis, particularly NBA Jam.
Also, not to derail the thread but Tommy Lasorda had such a colorful personality that most people don't really know about:
nhl 93 ,96 ,97
nba hangtime
world series baseball
My Consoles: Nes(toaster), Nes (toploader), Snes, Sega Genesis 2x Model 1 (HD and Va7) , Genesis Model 2 ,Sega Cd model 2 (bois ver 2.00) N64, PS1 , Xbox 1(modded running XMBC) , 2x Xbox360(2 jaspers)
My Handhelds: Sega Game Gear , Nintendo Ds, Sega Nomad (with dpad)
Hence why some refer to the game here as "Tommy Fuckin' Lasorda Baseball".
Also, you should be aware by now that my Pat Riley spiel is as much a part of my gimmick as my hate for "Super Thunder Blade". I just keep at it to see who'd eventually believe my false statistics. It was by far the worst first-gen sports game, even EGM trashed it back then.
