    Default 32X and certain TV's

Just wondering if anyone has found out the reason why the 32X has problems with displaying its video layer (eg: vibrating picture) on el cheapo late gen CRT's and some HDTV's and if anyone can comfirm which brands and models of HDTV's work fine with it?

Never witnessed a problem like that. Sync problems sound like they're occuring with the 32X layer. Or a ground loop of sorts.

It is the 32X layer that that some TV's don't like. I have tried this with a few 32X units and I get the same results on the same TV's.

Could be. I used to have WebTV device that hated my Model 2 (VA2.3)'s video. The blues would turn oddly colored gray with different colors in it, but was fine with the TV and VCR at the time.

Still don't get why it would limited to the 32X layer since the video signels are already mixed internally taking raw RGB and sync signels from the Genesis and overlaying it's signel on top of it and then outputting through a RGB video encoder. You sure it isn't the whole composite picture here when just playing 32X games?

Try the RF sheilding plates, too and a different output cable.

It happens with both composite and rgb scart (through a HDMI converter). Here are some video's I recorded last year to show the problem: http://youtu.be/4C3p8kVK728 , http://youtu.be/tAZMrO-lc48

The megadrive video layer is fine as you can see but the 32X shows problems. It works fine on some of my friends TV's but not on mine. My HD LCD is a generic brand though and I plan to upgrade when funds allow me to but i'm curious about which brand HD TV's other's use their 32X with so I can get something that works for it.

The video looks more like there is problem with horizental sync with the 32X.

My HDTV LCD has no problems with the Genesis or the 32X... Although having to set it to 4:3 mode is about it. I'm pretty sure it doesn't like both 480i/p out of certain devices via component, no problems with HDMI or composite signels of this resolution. So the 240p test would not be neccessory. I'm not going to deck a bunch of money for a scart cable and converter when my SDTV CRT in my room only accepts RF and composite signels anyway.

Different Genesis might help. Though it uses a composite sync... Who knows, it might be worth a shot.

Tried it with 4 diferent consoles (2 model 1's and 2 model 2's) and its the same thing. As I said earlier ive tried it also with 2 diferent 32X's and its the same on both. On the HD TV's it doesnt matter if it's in 16:9 or 4:3. I'm guessing it's an decoder problem with cheap new TV's (both CRT and HD LCD) therefore i'm interested in what make's and model's other people own that it works fine with for when I eventually upgrade from my generic brand. I plan to test it on a friends Bravia when I get the chance to visit her next so hopefully that will give me an indication of something I could get.

If what you're saying is true. Then maybe the way the 32X mixes signels is more of a hack job on SEGA's part and certain devices are just picky about it.

By the way I set the HDTV to 4:3 because I don't like stretching the picture of the Genesis. Same reason I bitch about TV stations for stretching the picture of older TV programs on their HD version of the channel.

Understandable about keeping it in 4:3. Over here in PAL land the image was kinda stretched due to being smooshed with top and bottom overscan bars in 50hz. For me I kinda got used to it thus having a MegaDrive thats been modded for 60hz output looks ok for me in 16:9 but 4:3 is just as good.
