Lightbulb How about a night-mode for the site?

While it's fun browsing and reading stuff here. At night, it's kinda of annoying doing it with the white bright background. Youtube just actually created this little switch next to the video titles where if you click it. You can have the white background and turn it into black for the night.

Not suggesting a switch like there's of course but something to give you the option to switch backgrounds on this site from white to black when you want to. I actually notice this feature starting to go to a lot of sites.

That lightswitch on YouTube is only ever available during "Earth Hour", something about conserving energy by turning all your electrical things off during that selected time. It's not a permanent function or anything.

But yeah an alternate "nighttime" theme would be nice, I suggest something like Neo-Geo.com's "black on blue/gray" scheme. Avoid DP's Virtual Boy theme though, that thing is an eyesore! Perhaps make a theme reminiscent of the black-grid box art?

Call me crazy, but can't you just adjust the brightness of your computer screen monitor?

Bright text on a dark background murders the eyeballs. Though I think we should give you a dark-ish blue text on a black background. The hardest color for the human eye to see + dark background = comedy gold!

I know a handful of sites that switch to night mode at a set time. Personally, if such I site gives me the option to turn night mode off, I generally use it. I think these "night modes" are usually harder to read (especially when it's already darker if you're reading them with artificial lighting and not during daylight hours), and if not pulled off right, they kinda ruin the mood of the site. It's a gimmick, and I could do perfectly well without it. I'm not generally against it, though - a good looking night theme is a nice touch. It should be optional, though, not mandatory.

That's a great idea that'd be keeping with the Genesis theme of the site while still being completely usable (not just a novelty). If we're voting, I vote for this! If we can't vote, suffrage!

How about themes based off the yellow/blue/red stripes that the 32X, SCD, Genesis had for the boxes? that might be pretty cool.

There used to be a different skin for the forum that was a darker theme with Sonic and Knuckles if I remember right, I think that was lost in the upgrade though.

We had a nice dark skin, but unfortunately it's not compatible with this version of vBulletin and there's no new version. Between that skin and the other I bought, I lost $60 when we upgraded, which is why I don't really want to buy more skins. If enough people ask for one though, we could buy one dark one so that there would be a light and dark option for users.

You could create a custom "skin" in the Admin CP by just making colors darker and text brighter, etc. It wouldn't be a real installed skin, but people would be able to select between them like it was.

Would software updates overwrite it? I've had to update the software twice in the last month, and I'd be worried that each update would wipe out any custom template.

God, vBulletin sucks so much ass.

I doubt it. Changing the colors is kind of like changing them in your profile. If you want to see what I mean, go to your profile and click the CUSTOMIZE MY PROFILE button on the right. Same look, just different colors. Of course when vBulletin 5 comes out everything will be overwritten like it was when we went from 3 to 4. It seems to me like version 4 isn't as customizable as 3 was. I haven't seen a VB forum yet with a custom skin, only different colors like Assembler Games

Have you tried the style conversion tool to convert the old site style to vB4?

How about you stab me in my eyes right now and save Melf the hassle of implementing the changes?
