Loved the Mortal Kombat games even though they where far from perfect gameplay wise.
But they were easy to play for me. I couldn't pull off the special moves in Eternal Champions very well but I had no problem with it in Mortal Kombat.
And it was bloody, something that makes it instantly cool for any angsty 12 year old kid....

Also, this thread has really been revived from the dead. I wasn't even signed up to Sega-16 when this was originally posted.
Me either. I don't believe in making new threads when one already exists. Which is why I posted about the Genesis MK's here and brought it back to life.

    And again, MK2 FTW!

The MK Genesis games were really bad ports. I don't understand why they're so praised. They're still good games, yes, but they really fucked up some of the controls and sprites and such.

Well when you're 13 years old in the 90's and that kickass arcade game is now on a home console. And it's fast and has blood. It's a good port. Well of course their are better ports now. But you didn't have anything to compare it to! You couldn't check a direct comparison to the arcade machine unless you had that cabinet in your house!!! They only thing you would compare MK1 on the Genesis to was the SNES version (which was slow and had no blood) So yeah, it was kick ass! But now? Yeah you can get arcade perfect ports, and it's really hard to try and play the Genesis version now.
RELAX!! Pretend it's a game.. Maybe it'll even be FUN!!

Whenever I try to praise games like Punisher, I get shot down by people saying it's a bad port. In reality, it's what you're saying, it's better than not having it on console at all. Why am I always on the opposite end of everyone else's opinions? Sigh...

Well, at least the music in MK1 and 2 was good:

I wonder what other kinda fixes they implemented..

anyhoo MK1 is a bad port, its way too grainy, the Genesis could have done a much better job.

MKII on the other hand was converted very differently, the backgrounds all look very much like the Arcade,
could have been a great port had they not cut ALL OF THE SOUNDS and ALL OF THE ART,
and some very necessary sprites. (like Cage/Baraka/Kahn's win poses)

    Luckily MKII is being fixed.

MK I is useless when you have 2&3.

Que? Is there some group fixing this game up, or something? I was really disappointed with the Genesis port of MK2. (Probably because I grew up on the SNES version, which is now deeply rooted into my brain and an easy trigger to a nostalgia-gasm.)

was that footage taken from Genesis port? I'm afraid I've never touched the Genesis version of MK1, only the Sega CD version.

and MKII for Genesis which I own was purposely crippled by those Acclaim crooks who wanted to capitalize on the 32X add-on.

thank goodness MK3 was handled through Sculptured like the SNES versions.

Yeah its a romhack called Mortal Kombat II Unlimited,
and its being hacked by a Russian romhacker who goes by the name of Smoke,
He's already released a version which reinserts the cut sound samples and
also makes the three secret combatants playable. (as well as the bosses)
As for the bio's/endings/etc, I've been converting art for him for a while now, which is not an easy task with the limited Genesis color palette.

But here's what you can expect. (all images are true Genesis colors)
(well the originals are, when i put them all together like this and saved to 256 colors its bound to change)

All 4 intro's will be added back.

All Bio's will be added back.

All Endings will be added back. (both of them)

As for the grey stone background, i never did manage to get the original blueish stone to look right on the Genesis,
it always turned some sort of purple. (like mk3's stone)

The Punisher is a great port, especially compared to Captain America and the Avengers (though I like the Genesis version well enough). If Captain America or GROWL had managed to maintain the arcade level designs and sprites the way The Punisher does I would have been thrilled.

I also consider the Genesis conversion of The Punisher superior to any of the Spiderman/Carnage or Death and Return of Superman games. It's even two player simultaneous! Seriously, what is the problem?
